Older child table and chair.

Hello!

I'm looking to replace sons current table and chair.
Can anyone recommend a table and chair for older child please, a five year old? Preferably the table/desk will have some sort of storage. This will be to eat at but also colouring in etc. The ones I've seen are for younger children sadly.
Thanks all! 😊

Just a normal height dining table or desk I imagine with regular chair

BiscoffSundae · 04/08/2022 11:07

I would just use a normal one at that age most the kids ones are designed for toddlers

If you get a Tripp Trapp chair then you could have a greater range of desk/tables to pick from, because of not having to buy as a pair.

What do you think?

I would just have them sitting at a normal dining table at that age, Ikea have some folding/space saving options if space is a problem.

LemonFrosting · 04/08/2022 11:30

Sorry I should have said, sadly not enough space for a dining table, believe me i've tried!!! 😉

Not even a fold out one?

Dinoteeth · 04/08/2022 11:33

Ikea normal adult table and a kids chair. But I'd see if you can get something that folds that you could sit at together.

Blanketpolicy · 04/08/2022 11:42

If they are eating at it already, a small dinning table for two, that possibly folds out for 4, up against a wall wont take up any more room than a childrens table, is more practical and will last much longer. Especially when they start having friends over.

Adult dd bought dgd a ladder desk from habitat at the start of lockdown. At the time they were in their old house and like you short of space and no dining area. They did attach it to the wall, it had 2 shelves and a drawer, was narrow and sturdy. They had it set up lovely, trailing plant on the top shelf, pen holders, ikea skadis pegboard board above the desk part before the 1st shelf, and lighting.it lived in the sitting room and didn't look out of place and was used for school and feul!

Love this but unfortunately the space I have for table width is 60cm. I really should have said sorry!

Tried moving the living room around but just can't happen. Kitchen too small for a table and I've no dining room.

www.argos.co.uk/product/7978056 this is the one. Wood and white £85 but the white and grey concrete effect one is reduced to clear £50

Could you fit this in if you only had it folded down when it was actually being used? It would also give you somewhere to sit with your DS and eat etc.

Mrsfussypants1 · 04/08/2022 11:52

60cm wide, but recommended to leave a bit of gap either side. You can get better quality ones made of real wood, or perhaps if your handy or know someone who is you could make one just like it.

NannyR · 04/08/2022 11:53

Do you have the wall space for something like this?

NannyR · 04/08/2022 11:55

Sorry, that link hasn't copied, it's the NORBERG drop leaf desk with storage on the Ikea website.

LemonFrosting · 04/08/2022 12:04

Thank you! I'd really prefer something with storage as well if possible.

IKEA have great kids desks and chairs and its pretty cheap

Caspianberg · 04/08/2022 12:23

60cm is pretty small so limits most desk options

However, I assume 60 is as it has to fit in alcove or between other furniture.
Your best bet is to buy a small drawer unit like this www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/nordli-chest-of-2-drawers-white-s09239827/

Then add a piece of wood to the exact size you need onto. You could make it 60cm wide, and then deeper than drawer so it can be used as a desk and table easier. Drawers provide the storage

I hadn't thought of adding a top myself! I think I'll do that, thank you!

Thanks all for the suggestions!! I knew I could rely on numsnet to solve my quandary!! 😄

Isn't it great, you can ask pretty much anything and someone can help. Fab stuff.
