We are staying in Marghera (hu Venezia Camping in Town) soon and will take a trip to Venice itself one of the days. Probably do the usual St Mark's Square/gondola ride! But have 2 days I am not sure what to do with.

We haven't go a car so an idiot's guide of what to do for a mum with no sense of direction and 2 dcs would be such a help .

Thank you!

I would not prioritise the Lido if I only had 2 days.

in Venice itself it’s fairly easy to avoid the crowds if you get off the beaten track, and also to find cheaper restaurants for pizzas etc, with google maps on your phone you’ll not get lost!

in Murano we found a place where the kids could have a go at glass blowing which they enjoyed - in an old church on the right hand side of the canal, probably 1-200 yards from the water bus stop,

find mask shops to browse in, plenty of ice creams, and watch the world go by.

Take the point about pizzas but my two consider it an absolute requirement of any trip to Italy no matter where!

Definitely the Secret Itineraries Tour of the Doge"s Palace. An unforgettable experience, with the added bonus of not having to join the long queue of visitors waiting to get in to see the public areas.
Booking well in advance is essential and easily done using the following link.

We just went last weekend and loved it. We caught the water bus to murano which was beautiful. We also went into Doges palace which was really interesting- I loved walking across the bridge of sighs into the cells.

We got a gondola just for us two- 80euros. If you do want to go inside the basilica make sure you cover your shoulders and men have to wear shorts below the knee.

Have a fab time

Some incredible options, I cant thank you all enough! A lot I would never have thought of.

Got to prioritise the Doge's Palace, water bus, Murano and Burano ( half day trips look great) the mall and copious amount of gelato obvs! Librairie Acqua Alta and Calle Varisco - and must try the cicchetti, sounds delicious.

Aaah, now want to fit so much more in - DCs have found a 3 hour walking and eating tour 😄 I have been reading all the suggestions to the DCs and they are now even more excited and googling all sorts😁

Sorry I forgot to add the tour guide I used….I actually booked Valerio through “With Locals” but he advised it would have been cheaper through his own website

www.detourist.it/

He gave us loads of recommendations for restaurants / pastry shops etc which were very “ local” and reasonably priced. Discovered the Select Spritz which is a cousin of the Aperol Spritz too.

Wear comfortable shoes, all the sightseeing will be on foot. No cars allowed in the city.
