Cash or card in Greece?

Going to Greece next week and taking approx 1000 Euros spending money- is it better in terms of exchange rates to take this as cash (i'd research the best possible exchange rates ofc) or to pay as we go on a debit card? Or credit card?

Thanks for any wisdom

Currently in Greece now, leaving today. The Greeks tend to prefer cash but if you want to take half cash and half card for safety then open a chase account. Is hot perfect exchange rates and you don't get charged for purchases. You don't need your card to make purchases, you can do it with your phone wallet. I brought €600 cash and €1400 on my chase account and its worked really well.

Depends on whether your card charges you for using it abroad.

I was in Corfu last week and we saw a huge upsurge in the use of card compared to pre-pandemic. Bars etc just came straight over with the card machine with the bill. But tips are still in cash and the small kiosk-y shops were all cash too.

We got starling bank accounts for travelling. Open in app- took an hour or two. Card into Apple Pay straight away. (Before they send it to you)

Can pay in euros or pounds, no foreign transaction fee. Immediate notification on phone when you spend something.

Actually pays a small amount of interest too.

Revolute card for some of it. Comes really quickly if you apply now but you can use the app. No transaction fees and you can take money out with it at ATMs and transfer money onto it on your phone from your bank account.

I'd take a few hundred in cash for tips and taxis maybe too.

(We came back from Greece last week and this is what we did x)

Thanks all

I bank with HSBC and Barclays- anyone know if they're good for exchange rates / fees?
