Can anyone talk me through what les mills is? Are all their classes on bikes?

Sorry if I am a bit clueless. Looking for ways of keeping fit for both myself and thirteen year old. Did these start as bike classes but move on to supplying other classes too? We have en exercise bike at home but do you need a specific type of exercise bike? Or will any bike do?

They are fitness classes, things like body attack/body pump etc which are offered in most gyms these days as well as online. There may be some spin type classes, but most aren't. Are you confusing with Peleton who are mainly bike based?

Puymi · 03/08/2022 22:17

Yes I probably am confusing them. Thanks that’s what I want, not something specifically on bikes

I do their body combat video on YouTube, nothing to do with a bike.

They have bike based classes but most are not. Some are more dance based, some strength, some flexibility. Lots of options so good if you're not certain what will work for you and / or you're someone who likes to mix it up.

Hi, they are great classes - i do bodypump and rpm. Great music with lots of options to cater for all levels.

However - they normally won't allow under 16s.

I want to get my 12 year old on a cycling class. The gym has told me that if its a Les Mills class she won't be allowed to attend, if its just a standard cycling class she will.

Puymi · 03/08/2022 22:23

Can they tell who attends the class? Is it on webcam or something?

And are some available for free on YouTube?

if its on-line, No. I attend the classes at my local gym. I wouldn't be able to do the classes i do at home as they require a bike or various weight equipment

No, their classes started in gyms as a sort of franchise model, still very popular. They launched Les Mills on Demand a few years ago that allows doing them from home as well.

If you do Les Mills on demand (i.e. at home logged in to your tv/iPad/computer) you're not joining a class, they're prerecorded and done in your own time. So no, no webcam, no interaction, you're basically following along to a video.

Ah, thanks that’s what I thought. Wasn’t sure if they keep an eye on you via a webcam and tell you to get moving lol !
