MOT

No excuse but I had a baby 8 weeks ago, so my brain is mush, and my car is set up through Arnold Clark for service and MOT. I knew my MOT was in august and had a 30 day reminder on the Arnold Clark app. However, that’s all I had and for some reason the middle of august was sticking in my mind.
I drove DD to the hospital yesterday for a procedure, then drove on the motorway back home.
today I’ve just gone to check when exactly it expires so I can book it in to see it expired on the 1st. I feel terrible. I’ve never made a fuck up like this before. 😫😫 that means I drove it a day after it expired. It’s now booked in for next Tuesday so just parked out my house until then and I won’t drive it again, but would I have been pulled over and stopped immediately for something like that, or could a camera on the motorway flag something so I could get a fine in the post?
does anyone know how much it will be? I’ve seen £100 or £1000… obviously one of those is much more reasonable :( especially with a newborn baby. Just besides myself with worry that I’ll be fined £1000 as I only get statutory maternity pay. :(

i used to forget mine ...never got a ticket....but now we are permit controlled, i take it in a week early....i doubt you get a fine for being one day off valid cert.

I don't think you can get a fine now for driving it yesterday. It would only be if you were stopped while driving it.

In any case, they're normally fairly good at giving you a bit of leeway (round here, anyway).

You may also find that it's ok to drive it now you have the appointment booked - something similar happened to be and I couldn't get an appointment until after the expiry date. The insurance company said it was fine as long as the appointment was booked.

Doubt it. I think those speed traps also check for untaxed cars. They don't know about the MOT I don't think.
Anyway there are thousands of untaxed and uninsured cars being driven all the time and no one seems to know about it til they crash.

Honestly, you'll be fine. PP is right, those checks are for untaxed cars (government revenue avoiders!) not MOT.
The MOT would only come into it perhaps if you'd been stopped, but you weren't.
Stop worrying now, and enjoy your baby (congratulations by the way!)

You don't get fined retrospectively for no MOT. For all they know you were driving it to the garage (which you're allowed to do).

The MOT system is crap. No reminders unlike vehicle tax and now it’s paperless, so nothing to check (unless you request).

I appreciate you can online check the MOT status of a vehicle but it’s a pain.

OP don’t even worry…

Don’t sweat, absolutely nothing is going to happen

Thank you so much everyone! Definitely put my mind at ease! Doh, will set up a reminder for next year! 🤦‍♀️
