Food on a plane

Hi all. We are flying from Manchester terminal 2 in a couple of weeks. Out flights have changed and we are no longer having the meal on the plane. ( not that it would have been that nice anyway!)
What do you normally do? We are flying a bit further than we usually do so my DC will need some sort of food!!
Planning on going for a breakfast when we first get to the airport . Shall I buy a meal deal for everyone for later on??

We frequently fly 8+ hours long haul with dc. We usually take an insulated foldable lunch bag (M & S have perfect ones) filled with some of dc’s favourite food/snacks eg an apple, banana, Pringles, oaty bar, biscuits, pretzels, chocolate, grapes and a cheese bagel. DC loves being able to choose what to eat whenever. As a bonus, the insulated bag keeps drinks cold when we’re out and about at our destination, and folds down to virtually nothing for the flight home.

As a PP has mentioned, check if certain fruit/vegetables need to be declared when you arrive at your destination.

Thank you everyone 💓 ☺

Think I'll make some nice sandwiches at home and make almost like our own meal deal equivalent as I hate shop bought sandwiches anyway. Put some crisps and snack bars along with them, Everyone can have their own stored into their own bag then.

Just a thought does all of this have to be brought out on the security tray

When my ancestors were transported to Australia they took hens for fresh eggs and goats for milk. That was long haul though.

Get a meal deal from boots when you get past security

No

I take our own mostly now. Mainly as the queues have got ridiculous recently at security and then in the stores so we wouldn’t always have time to get something

Ds also has allergies.
Rolls travel better than sandwiches. I take a selection of little things like mini pretzels, raisens for kids to nibble at.

nothing comes out at security. Just don’t take liquids ie yogurt

Avoid liquids or pastes (tubs of hummus or dips, yoghurts, etc) but solid food is fine. No need to present at security. You can leave it in your bag.

We often take a "picky lunch" for my daughter as she won't eat sandwiches.

If you put hummus between 2 slices of bread it's fine but if you take it through in a pot it counts as a liquid through security!!

Oh that's handy to know!! I will avoid the hummus altogether!!
