Heating oil prices

Not sure where to post this but wondering what people reckon about heating oil prices.
need to fill up before winter, and usually do around this time, but the prices are still really high.
anyone else holding off for a bit, or is this the best it’s going to get?
(I know it’s speculation, but was hoping as other fuel prices were going down oil would too).

I'm giving it another 2 weeks to see if it lowers in anyway but won't leave it to September, we are however stocking up on wood for the fire to make that our main source of heat.
Our hope this year is the oil is only used for hot water due to the excessive costs

I'm holding out too. Paid £300 for 500 litres end of January and thought that was expensive! I'll need to get some before the October electricity price rise though. Currently using immersion heater for hot water, v sparingly. Oil is around 91p litre here in S W Wales, prices still volatile.

I'm waiting too 😳 not keen to spend more than we have to but have a feeling it won't go down much.

Think I’ll hold fire a bit longer too.
Got a load of wood ready for winter and also hoping that’ll be most of it

It's only going to go up but do compare suppliers they're more competitive in August. We got our logs in April split and stacked ready for autumn. So if you've room for wood get prices now

I've read that within the new package for energy bills there will ge help for those reliant on heating oil. They will receive 'equivalent ' support from a new fund, whatever that means. Shall I fill up now or wait?

sparklecement · 09/09/2022 12:21

I have just over half a tank. I am going to wait another couple of weeks to see what the financial support is but to be honest, I’d rather sit in the dark than sit in the cold so I’d fill it anyway. Just May be not have it on quite as long.

we had oil heating for two decades they would ring in August wanting me to fill up. I checked prices and bit the bullet ordering from someone. If I had to order in February OUCH

I'm waiting too. See if anything comes from this package of support that's been mentioned. It's the equivalent of 96p a litre where I am. I've stocked up on logs and have enough oil to do the hot water for a while.

I have put an application in at the local council too (they have a fund that helps people struggling with increased costs like oil fired heating/ rural living/ energy bill debt but I'm not holding my breath).

We are members of the West of England Rural Network community oil buying scheme. Its well worth it as always cheaper than even ringing round for quotes locally www.wern.org.uk/community-oil-buying-scheme
It covers wiltshire and Gloucestershire and all the way down to the tip of Cornwall. I guess there will be similar schemes for other regions.
