What is your favourite UK day out?

We love days out and now the children are a bit older it's so much easier getting out and about, particularly after spending so much time at home over the last 3 years.

We did Legoland and Chessington last week, are National Trust members, our RHS membership has just expired, and we love a simple day at the seaside. Just looking for recommendations for really great days out. We have family all over the UK, so location not an issue!

Did Longleat last month and Monkey World..

@Summerhasbeenandgone ooh we love Scarborough - the little beach train is our favourite!

York maze has been on our list for a while. I've never heard of monkey world - I must look it up.

West Midland Safari park but not in school holidays . We really didn’t like Monkey World , and we went back a different time just to make sure . One of my particular favourites is Crocodiles of the World nr Oxford . I also really like the British Museum and Walmer Castle

Paulton park in New Forest. Never thought I would recommend there but it actually was a brilliant day and the New Forest is so beautiful .

@UWhatNow what age is best for this? It's been on our list for a while but because of the price and size of the roller coasters, we were putting it off until the DC were older. Is it just rides? Or is there more to do?

International cricket match or The Blast or The 100.

Froofrooloofy · 02/08/2022 14:25

@Toosadtocomprehend is this for small children? DC are almost 10 and 7, so not sure if they are too big for this. Would love to visit New Forest though!

Brighton!
Hastings
St Albans
A bit further for us (and a mission by train) Broadstairs.

We live a day by the seaside.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 02/08/2022 14:36

I second Monkey World

I love the Natural History Museum

Further afield:
Tintagel and Boscastle (I was gutted we couldn't get into the witchcraft museum last time we went)

When mine were younger we'd spend whole days doing sand sculptures (rather than castles) and crabbing off the quay in North Norfolk. Simple pleasures before they turned into teens and everything costs money!
Likewise country parks for picnics, making whistles from grass and bug hunting.
We spent one day ( years ago) doing rubbings of the plaques in One of the cathedrals ( make sure you get permission): the dc were between 5 and 12. It recently came up as one of the most fun days ever ( they are now 18-25!). It might have been York Minster as the younger spent ages rolling down hills nearby too.

The Forbidden Corner is excellent, only takes half a day really but completely worth it.
Bewilder wood if they'll enjoy den making with you and pottering about the forest looking for surprises: get the books first so they know who to look out for.
If you go to London try and get onto one of the tours with actors on The Golden Hinde near Borough Market. It's actual size so how all those sailors lived must have been horrific!

The park covers all age groups. Peppa Pig is obviously for little ones but the other parts..cannot remember the names were definitely for older children/adults.
Loads of other days out at the New Forest as well.
