Boring thread alert - which new Hoover?

I've had several Dyson's and been very happy with them. The current is a yellow DC07 I've had way over ten years and it's now not picking up the animal fur as well

I have 8 cats plus myself & one other long haired person in this house so the carpets look bad within hours, let alone days!

Must haves, upright, can be corded, decent stair tool. Assume they all come with a crevice tool.

Should I be looking at other makes as the current Dyson Animal is £380-£420 and that's a lot if it's not up to the job.

I definitely do not want a handheld cordless as I have a Dyson V8 as well but that's only good for doing the odd room, battery life is shocking and it's not great with pet hair

Vax Air Stretch Max Pet. About £100 and better than anything else at picking up my hair (I shed more than any pet). Bloody marvellous and keeps its suction well. The electric cord got damaged in mine so I'm off to buy the exact same one again.

Shark upright, I wouldn't buy anything else now, for me it's been way better than Dysons

KellynchHall · 03/08/2022 03:27

SEBo Felix is great. I bought mine in 2011 and it still sucks just as brilliantly today.

Shark cordless. Tis a thing of beauty, and hands down beats any dyson I've had in the past.

JasmineVioletRose · 03/08/2022 05:43

Miele for me.

autienotnaughty · 03/08/2022 05:45

Shark was useless , I could not believe we paid several hundred pounds for something so bad. I returned it 3 times (no refunds) in 2 years but each replacement was just as bad. Personally I think Henry is the best but obviously not an uptight. I wasn't impressed with vax although it is cheaper. Not had a dyson for a number of years so can't comment.

Following with interest. I have a Miele animal and have sent it back several times. Still not right and now out of warranty. Cord doesn't retract, suction iffy even though filters cleaned regularly. Very annoyed as it was very expensive.

cherrypiepie · 03/08/2022 07:53

Miele cat and dog or blizzard.

I have the car and dog and it's pretty great but I don't like the bags and the blizzard is bagless.

I have a Dyson cordless for daily hoovering.

I hate my Miele cat and dog!

Find filters hard to remove and clean, hair tangles on the brush and the plastic cover of the head has to be unscrewed by removing the wheels to clean.

Plus aforementioned retraction issue with the cord...

I've decided to go with a refurbished shark as I very much like the hand held version I have.

denysedenyse · 07/08/2022 21:34

Such a mix, I'm still unsure what to do.

I'd rather be able to buy the part for my old Dyson but even pattern parts are not made anymore for this model. Well not the part I need anyway Confused

This won't help with the conflicting advice but... I HATED MY SHARK cordless... temperamental, useless, no suction, and needed constant attention, like a high maintenance pet. And more HATE.

After reading Mumsnet reviews I bought a corded Miele Cat and Dog C2, and it's the best vacuum I've ever owned. It's so powerful, requires little attention and is all round fabulous.

MissRainbowBrite · 07/08/2022 21:52

Miele all the way, I recently bought a new one after having a Dyson and it's far better than the Dyson. We had a Miele CX1 Cat & Dog. It's bagless and is a dream compare to the Dyson.

PeloAddict · 07/08/2022 21:58

I have a corded shark and love it but it doesn't get a massive workout (live alone with a cat)

Changenameobviousreasons · 07/08/2022 22:05

Shark lift away with cord. Amazing. MIL is a bit eccentric (this is relevant, I promise) so when she was adamant she needed a new "downstairs" hoover as her downstairs Dyson had broken I convinced her to get a shark instead because I loved mine so much. (this is in addition to the "upstairs" Dyson, Henry and "under the bed" VAX.)
In my infinite wisdom, I decided to hoover upstairs with her Dyson then hoover it straight away with the shark - the results made me feel very smug in my position as "already own a shark"
Copes very well with our dogs and DC5

Very impressed with the refurbished shark so far. Easy to assemble, fabulous suction and anti hair wrap on the brushes.

Converts to canister if needed, and takes up much less space than the wretched Miele cat and dog - which I absolutely hate and is now banished to a dark corner of the spare room.

I have long hair, plus a dog and three cats so it will get tested to the max I suspect !

Had not considered this model so will need to have a look

I'm procrastinating a lot. Part of me is just buy a Dyson, it did an ok job but I wouldn't say it was amazing

Shark corded lift away gets my vote. With anti hair wrap, its a game changer.

Words · 12/08/2022 06:10

That's the one I have cat. Really like it.

fizzyfood · 12/08/2022 06:41

Upright sebo. Years ago went to John Lewis and assistant said that's what they all have. Lasts for years.

denysedenyse · 16/08/2022 15:27

So, I went with a Shark.

I hope it's good!

Hope it's ok @denysedenyse.

Hoovered up after the dog earlier and in the long haired cat's favourite lounging area, and was v impressed. Easy to manoeuvre. Great suction, which is also adjustable.

The little headlights are actually not just a gimmick but also useful in seeing stuff hiding by the kick board things in the kitchen.

The canister is a trifle small, so needs regular emptying, but that's all I have to gripe about so far.

Breath of fresh air after the bloody Miele.
