Is this dress ok for a full day wedding?

It’s been so long since I’ve been to a wedding that I’m no longer sure what’s appropriate anymore! Would appreciate your thoughts. Have a few alternatives in my basket but this was my fave.

It's maybe a teeny bit bridesmaids? I think a long dress in a solid colour is tricky for that reason.

SirenSays · 01/08/2022 17:25

It looks lovely. I don't think I could wear it to a wedding though, my boobs would look like they're trying to make a break for it. It's definitely worth trying on.

ParanoidGynodroid · 01/08/2022 17:27

I think it's lovely and very suitable.

It is a bit bridesmaidy

Divebar2021 · 01/08/2022 17:30

I’m pretty liberal about weddings and dress codes but my first thought was it’s quite bridesmaidy. ( and a bit full on )

WhereYouLeftIt · 01/08/2022 17:30

Full length? Maybe for evening wear, but a bit OTT for full-day. And as others have said, at a wedding it looks a bit bridesmaid-y - because full-length.

GallopingGreen · 01/08/2022 17:33

It's a beautiful and very sexy dress ... !! but not appropriate for a wedding. Too bridesmaidy... and too low cut.

Earlyinthenight · 01/08/2022 17:33

Bridesmaidy was my worry. Didn’t realise full length was a no go for during the day? I know the colour scheme is green so no worries about colour.

I like the colour and don't mind it being a solid block of colour but the split is a bit much for my liking. I'd be holding it together all day, worried my pants were on show!

I'm wearing a very bridesmaidy type dress to a wedding next month, but it's nice and I like it and feel comfortable in it. I did see what the bride thought and she wasn't bothered - she's not having any bridesmaids anyway.

SatinHeart · 01/08/2022 17:37

I think full length is OK for a wedding if you go for a dress with a print rather than a solid colour to avoid the bridesmaid-y issue

Agree with pp saying that dress is a bit low cut for a wedding

Friffle · 01/08/2022 17:37

A lot of people tend to wear full length dresses to weddings these days. I'm sure you'll have a fair idea whether a lot of the other female guests will be doing similar. I think it will be fine as long as the boobage region is well contained.

MakeadealwithGod · 01/08/2022 17:41

It’s very glam. It does show boobs and a whole leg so it depends how it looks on you I would say!

Earlyinthenight · 01/08/2022 17:42

Few others I’d saved to basket

I’m very small in the chest area so there would be very little to see plus I’d put tit tape on there, maybe a safety pin if possible

nannybeach · 01/08/2022 17:45

First one too short, unless you're 16, prefer number 3. I'm old school,no black or white, full length in the day.....or mini.

Earlyinthenight · 01/08/2022 17:46

Also no idea what other female guests are wearing, it’s my husbands friend getting married

MouseRoar · 01/08/2022 17:50

I love the blue and the pink one. Probably go for the pink if it was for me, because I don't like how my knees look! But if you've lovely legs, go for it😁

35965a · 01/08/2022 17:52

I agree with the poster above who said full length is usually OK if it has a print, otherwise it does look a bit bridesmaidy.
The blue floral one is beautiful.

Popcorning · 01/08/2022 17:52

The last photo of the knee length pink/blush one is my favourite of the ones you’ve shown.

Its fashionable with nice features but nothing on show too much. In my view being a wedding guest is about making an effort to get dressed up in a nice outfit but ensuring it’s demure. Nothing to detract attention from the bride and nothing you’d necessarily wear on a night out with the girls round town.

Have a great time.

35965a · 01/08/2022 17:53

The pink midi length is lovely too.

Popcorning · 01/08/2022 17:53

Sorry just to add it also really depends on the location and style of the wedding and if you’re an all day guest or evening etc.

MatildaJayne · 01/08/2022 17:56

I don’t like the length of the pink one, a bit old fashioned? I like the blue if you’re in early 20s and the floral with a pashmina or jacket.

Earlyinthenight · 01/08/2022 18:01

Thanks all! The one I really love is the first one but I’m glad I asked because I’d hate people to be talking about my outfit at the wedding, saying it was too much etc
back to the drawing board!

It's the split and plunge which makes it inappropriate, colour is lovely and I think you could get away with the length otherwise.

takeitandleaveit · 01/08/2022 18:04

To be honest for weddings, I'd avoid anything strapless, low-cut, with a high split, or a very short skirt. In other words anything that could be construed as a 'look at me' dress.

And anything in a solid colour that could in any way remotely resemble a 'bridesmaid' colour. Full length might be okay for a very formal wedding. I went to a very posh one once, where the dress code was formal evening dress for the men and ball gowns for the women.
