Please can you recommend me some lovely easy reading books for my holiday in a few weeks. I'm talking your typical woman moves into small village and renovates old house/opens cafe by the seaside/lives with chickens in the countryside and meets handsome stranger. Twee, easy, escapism...

Any ideas?

I recently read An Endless Cornish Summer and really enjoyed it. Finished it in about a day and a half whereas normally I only pick books like that up for a couple of hours at a time every few weeks (when not on holiday).

The Switch by Beth O'Leary was good too. It was predictable but it had some very funny characters which made it a fun read.

The Keeper of Lost Things would be right up your street. Pure coziness.

Oh brill, these are just the type of thing I'm after, thank you!

The Keeper of Stories - lovely easy going feel good book!

EmmaStone · 01/08/2022 14:28

I've just finished Still Life which I adored. Not fluffy, but heart warming and beautiful.

ouch321 · 01/08/2022 14:28

Sophie Kinsella- the Shopaholic series.

My favourite fun read

ReviewingTheSituation · 01/08/2022 14:30

Maeve Binchy or Marian Keyes are my go-to for those kinds of books (although the latter deals with some fairly meaty subject matters, just with the easy-reading style of chick lit).

The undomestic goddess by Sophie kinsella

I'm loving books by Rebecca raisin at the moment, and they're exactly what you're after. Also like Sheila o'Flanagan, Patricia scanlan, Lucy diamond, Isabelle broom, Jenny colgan.

Thank you for reminding me of this, I am on holiday and am going to see if I can get it on Kindle 😊

Definitely Marian Keyes. I saw a post on Facebook earlier saying ‘Watermelon’ is 99p on Amazon, bargain!

BooseysMom · 01/08/2022 14:54

All Jenny Colgan's stuff sounds perfect for what you're after. Enjoy!

I like the books by Karen Wheeler about her escape to France, the first one in the series is Tout Sweet: Hanging Up My High Heels For A New Life In Rural France. She eventually moved back to the U.K. and settled in Devon and wrote about that in her latest books, so you might prefer those books. She doesn't seem to be that well known but she writes very well and the books are very easy to read, she is a bit scatty so the books are quite amusing but also very moving in some parts. She is very honest about her life and it's ups and downs, which is quite refreshing. I really like her books.

I have just finished Up with the Larks: Starting Again in Cornwall by Tessa Hainsworth, again based on her own life. I read it in a couple of days so definitely easy reading.

TokyoSushi · 01/08/2022 15:12

Oh these are all lovely thank you! I've read all of Marian Keyes, definitely that type of thing!
