If you go to the beach regularly with young children what do you always take? What are you go to quick to make picnic ideas?

Talcum powder to get sand off feet. Works wonders!

Beach towel, wipes, change of clothes and socks. Food wise, we go to the supermarket by the beach and buy sausage rolls, sandwiches, doughnuts, fruit, water/ juice.

Bottle of water for rinsing their face

But tbh I'm so lucky the beach is at the end of my road

Snacks and change bag for baby and that's it really
Sun cream and hats

Crocs

Beach tent for shade/shelter for the baby, camping chairs for me and DH, towels, bucket and spade, water bottle, wipes, hoodies, suncream, talc to get the sand off at home time. We rarely take a picnic as we live really close, but if we do we just do sandwiches and fruit. The more food we take the more likely it is to get covered in sand.

Big bottle of iced water
Fruit and a small knife to cut it up
Home made sausage rolls
Breadsticks and triangle cheeses

Those thin towels that dry quickly
A pop up tent if I can be bothered to carry it
Bucket and spades
Sun hats
Cotton shirts and shorts for the kids
Swim gear
Waterproof sandals
A few toy cars or playmobil people (they like sandcastles)

We only live 10 mins walk away but if I’m organised and we go with friends they will play for hours and be starving!

DD will play for hours too, but for us that means she finally stops incessantly asking for food Grin Actually, I forgot to add change for when she hears the ice cream man announcing his arrival.

I am packing this for Wednesday when we go away. I cannot bear sand. This tip will change my life.

Does it work on wet sand? You know that horrible stuff that isn't properly wet but isn't dry either.

Small sachets of saline (pennies from the chemist) - wonderful for cleaning sand out of eyes when they rub them with sandy fingers or the wind blows the wrong way.

Thick waterproof sun cream before we leave the house, and then the light spray on kind so you’re not rubbing sand on their skin (use a make up sponge to dab faces and don’t forget the hair line if you have a hat refuser)

Blow up sofas, tent, wind breakers, water and fruit, towels and kids

Yep, the talc soaks up the water and then the now dry sand falls off.
