It has to be online or at the most 1 day per week on site due to young dc. I don't really have any previous qualifications except gcses and an access to he certificate in humanities and journalism.

I would love a career I can do from home, anywhere in the world. Self-employed would be great. Perfectly happy to spend long hours working alone. I'm great with people when it's one-on-one, but meetings and presentations terrify me. Working alone on projects for clients then sending them the finished work would be ideal.

I'm leaning towards Web design, Web development or perhaps copywriting, virtual pa/admin assistant. I'm currently a self-employed cleaner with UC top up so salary doesn't have to be sky high as we currently survive on not very much. Dc are primary school age and I have absolutely no support.

Have you looked into UX? it's a growing profession and lends itself very well to ad hoc external services. To be good at it you need to have good empathy, eye for detail and interest in human centred design.

Have you contacted a careers service in your area? Just in case there is funding available for one of the jobs you've listed.

I'm leaning towards Web design, Web development or perhaps copywriting, virtual pa/admin assistant. Quite a range there… are those the things you actually like doing (which does seem like a daft question I’m aware)?

What is UX?

Studyafter40 · 31/07/2022 15:21

@MrsJamin No, I've never heard of it. I just had a quick Google and it seems quite an advanced skill/career mainly for those with a degree. I'll definitely research it further.

@Dwrcegin All the careers services in my area bar the job centre are aimed at younger people.

@ReeseWitherfork Great username! I loved copywriting but it's a hard market to break into. Never studied coding but have looked into it a lot over the last few months and I think it would suit me.

UX = user experience
or similarly, UI = user interface.

Could crossover the worlds of coding and copywriting.

MrsJamin · 01/08/2022 13:57

I wouldn't be put off if you haven't done a degree. It was the combination of copywriting and web development that you mentioned that made me think you might like it. These are good intro videos about what it is and how to get into it.
