Holiday trips with kids

Just finished planning our summer. DC are 4 and 3 and so far we're visiting friends in different places which they will love and have a trip abroad planned to the country where they were born. Before having kids, we used to travel the world, on a budget but I loved it and in my case I've also lived in six different countries so far.

However, it just doesn't seem worth it with little kidsAlso MN at what age is it worth it or important to start taking them to places for them rather than for us? I never travelled abroad before I was ten but have since made up for it later.

Clearly they won't remember any of the holidays we go on at the moment. From reading MN is seems that teens don't much love travelling with their parents.

So is there something like a magic age when they get something out of it and before they start refusing to come with us.

I think yours just at the age where it will be fun. It's when you have to drag buggy's and travel cots everywhere that it is a drag.

Anyway so what if they don't remember everything. You will remember.
Memories are not just for the kids they are for you too. We had some lovely holidays with them at this ages. We tended not to move around too much. So we would stay in a holiday house for 10 day or so and go on day trips. Sometimes they were happy with a different playground and an ice cream.

Now we have teens it's a different type of holiday and there is some amount of cajoling to them to get off their phones when we are there but no complaints about coming with us.

Yes, ours are at a lovely age when they are just happy to hangout at the beach. But I was wondering at what age is it worth taking them longhaul, city breaks etc things that are fun but should also be formative. My eldest is really into Roman's at the money but am thinking he might be a bit young for a city break to Rome.

Oh yes I see what you mean.

Based on my kids I would say from around 6-11 they enjoyed visiting stuff like that. Loved castles and history especially if there were kids worksheets etc.

We went to Bath and Stonehenge when DS was 6 and he still remembers it and really enjoyed it.

But last time we were in Spain they didn't want to leave the pool to go to Tarragona . Maybe we had over done the history Grin
