How painful is it to have done? And how long did yours take to heal?

I'm considering another piercing but haven't decided what yet 🤔

I got mine done a few years ago (for migraines). I found it smarted when it was done and was very swollen and tender for a couple of weeks (it’s all cartilage). Couldn’t wear ear buds for example. Then it settled but the lady who pierced it said it’ll take 9-12 months to heal and you need to clean it..she was right. I like it though, glad I had it done.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 30/07/2022 17:46

I had mine done about three months ago.

It hurts like a bastard having it done, but because it’s tucked away in your ear it doesn’t tend to get caught on stuff.

Mine has healed really well, although it’s still a little swollen as I sleep on that side. Can’t wait till I can swap it out for something prettier!

TravellingSpoon · 30/07/2022 18:46

It was painful when I had mine done, but I am a baby!

It took about 6 months to heal fully, I now wear a ring in it and can twiddle that round with no problems.

It certainly took less time to heal that my helix.

It was a short sharp pain getting it done but very manageable- the worst bit for me was hearing the crunch as the needle went through. My piercer said not everyone hears it though.

Mine healed really quickly and I changed the jewellery to something much prettier after about 3 months.

Ive got my conch and a flat pierced as well, and the daith was 100% the easiest to heal as it was so tucked away.

Earphones we’re tricky for the first few weeks, but I never had any issues after sleeping on it (although I know this is Piercing NoNo number 1!).

No it doesn't hurt to have it done it's a bit crunchy lol, takes a few months to heal.

Lesina · 30/07/2022 19:04

Smarted a bit, healed quickly changed jewellery within 6 months. May get the other one done :)

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 30/07/2022 19:05

I had mine done almost a year ago. It wasn’t horrific having the piercing but it did hurt a bit, honestly I didn’t find it awful at all. I took a couple of paracetamol after but I slept on it ok from the first night. The piercer said around 6 months to fully heal, which was about right for me. It was never painful during the healing process but it did weep/bleed every so often. I was quite worried at one point as I developed a lump at the piercing site but with continued cleaning, it all settled around 6 months.

I absolutely adore mine, go for it!

OneLittleLady · 30/07/2022 19:10

ive got both mine done and they were fine. no rpoblems healing and neatly tucked away so dont catch on much. If you dont already have soemwhere you go for piercings, id recommened Twisted Fate int he city centre (hi btw waves ) they are really good in there its where ive had my recent piercings done and they are clean dn professional

lucysmam · 31/07/2022 12:22

@OneLittleLady that's where I was going to go. Dd1 is keen to get hers done but isn't quite 16 yet so she's going to have to admire mine for a while 🤣

oh cool, they are really good in there! i get my tattoos there as well and i really cant fault them at all. they will give you after care instructions and they are happy for you to pop in any time if youre having any issues witht he work theyve done for you 😀

Ivchangedmynameforthis · 31/07/2022 12:27

I had mine done about 6 weeks ago. It didn't hurt at the time but I did get the crunch which made me wince. It still stings from time to time but is a lot less sore than it was. It itches sometimes and gets a bit sticky but nothing major. I absolutely love mine and don't regret it for a second.

Woodlandarchitecty · 31/07/2022 12:30

mine was painful with lots of tugging. Felt odd. It affected my sleep for a long time and couldn’t wear headphones etc.

it never healed and after 6 months I took it out. It fully closed over within 2 weeks.

such a shame as it helped with my neurological problems :(

Looked good though!

Slippersandacuppa · 31/07/2022 12:35

It was very painful to get done and then didn’t heal very well (it had been done with a ring with a very heavy ball which kept pulling on it) so I changed and it healed after about a year. No pain at all now and no more migraines!!!

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 31/07/2022 12:35

Mine didn't hurt as much as I thought it would but I did have a migraine at the time. I did hear the crunch though
I looked after it carefully bathing it 2x daily in boiled water with seasalt and it was swollen for a few weeks. I reckon 6 months to heal properly. It's nicely tucked away to didn't get caught on anything
My tragus was more painful and got knocked easily

OneFrenchEgg · 31/07/2022 12:44

I took mine out recently as after two years it got really thin. Also had loads of twinges around the site.
I have tragus, conch and forward helix done and tragus has been the worst for healing and pain.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/07/2022 14:19

I really want mine done but I'm worried it won't heal properly. I had my helix pierced 14 months ago and the stupid thing still hasn't healed properly.
