Do teenagers still have posters all over their rooms like we did in the 90s?

What do preteen/teenagers bedrooms look like these days? Just a random thought.

Eldest teen has nothing on the walls, younger tween has posters of kpop bands, zendaya and tom holland, instants of her with friends, and posters she has made herself.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 30/07/2022 14:32

My dc 14 has his own drawing all over his bedroom wall.

easyday · 30/07/2022 16:26

Nope. Four kids no posters.
Mind you we used to get them in albums or from teen magazines when I was growing up - neither around much today.

Beetr00t · 30/07/2022 16:37

12 year old DS has a bedroom more stylish than most houses I've ever had! It's all greys, with led lights and fake plants etc.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 30/07/2022 16:39

My eldest has got one large England rugby flag taking up most of one wall and a framed photo of an F1 car.
Youngest has Mr Darcy, a votes for women suffragette flag, and a large framed baby groot.

RockinHorseShit · 30/07/2022 12:33

Mine has a wall of neatly lined up instant camera photos of her friends & experiences, a couple of properly framed large vintage posters & lots of boho type printed fabric throws pinned to the ceilings in a Bedouin tent sort of vibe

Same with mine. It looks lovely and I feel a combo of jealousy and embarrassment when I recall my late 80’s bedroom covered with Wet Wet Wet posters!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 30/07/2022 17:28

My 11 year old has an Ed Sheeran poster up that she bought from the book fair at school a couple of years ago

Adversity · 30/07/2022 17:44

DS had a large gaming poster that we framed, it covered a huge area. On another wall he had all his cadet and football certificates.

Everythingsr0sie · 30/07/2022 17:49

My 15 and 16 year olds have bedrooms full of posters.

Mainly 90s American and Manchester bands - Pretty much the same ones I had at that age! They buy them from Afflecks and HMV

megletthesecond · 30/07/2022 18:07

Nothing here. Some pics on a bookcase and inspirational and sentimental bits on desks. DS has a world map and uk map too.

Musicaltheatremum · 30/07/2022 18:13

My kids didn't have posters when they were teens...now 27 and 29

I remember getting the Jackie 4 weeks in a row to get my Donny Osmond huge poster. You got a bit of him each week. 🤣

ReformedWaywardTeen · 30/07/2022 18:13

One of mine (DS, 14) has maps and flags, and a framed poster of some anime characters. Because of the maps and flags and desk it looks akin to a cabinet war room.
The other one, 16, has a huge pride flag on one wall, some autographs from Drag Race UK in frames on the wall opposite their bed, and loads of photos stuck on the wall like a collage on the wall that's under their loft bed next to the desk, along with tickets from shows they've seen or been in. They have a notice board with drawings done by them and their mates.

But as for posters like I had, and my room was covered including the ceiling in Take That posters from Big, Smash Hits, Live and Kicking and Fast Forward amongst others, not so much. They don't really buy magazines like I know I did.

PestoPasghetti · 30/07/2022 18:23

Flashback to my teenage bedroom:

Massive high-fi (inc minidisk player!) for playing my 'That's what I call Music' CDs
Shiny dark magenta plastic chain curtain thing
Dark purple carpet
Bright pink beanbag where I used to sit and play Snakes on my Nokia 5210, with the ill-fitting brightly multicoloured phone cover I bought down the market
Stack of 'Sugar' magazines
Heart shaped cushion on the bed
Purple fairylights all over the shop, year round

And of course...

Captain Jack Sparrow on every wall

Ahh, nostalgia. It was a simper time!

NotMyRealSelf · 30/07/2022 19:12

My 17 year old has anime and movie posters all over here's.

Two walls fully covered and the only reason the others aren't are because ots covered in book shelves full of manga and teen fanstasy books.

If she comes in town with us one if our fave things ti do is flip through the posters in HMV looking for ones of anime and shows she likes she doesn't already have. Sometimes her dad proudly brings one back when he's been in town on his own.

I'm pleased she gets joy from something I also did, flipping through the posters and chatting about them and seeing her do the same eye roll I did at my mother when she went "whose that" at a Gary Barlow poster 😂

cookiecreammmpie · 30/07/2022 19:16

14 year has Stranger Things and a woman in a bikini.

Swimminginmud · 30/07/2022 19:18

Mine has spray painted and drawn all over her walls. Looks a bit squatty in my opinion but she got a few commissions to do walls for people so it must be a bit of a thing atm

No posters here. Or interest in them.

i suspect the death of teen magazines is a factor. They’re accessing stuff online, not reading smash hits which comes with a poster in the middle of every edition.

I think this is a big factor too. Recently spent £20 on a couple of posters for pre-teen niece's birthday and commented that "in my day" I'd have got them free in a magazine.

Today it's cheaper to decorate with postcards or photos from apps like freeprints.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 30/07/2022 19:29

When I was a teen I had a poster of Keanu Reeves on my ceiling.

I told dd about that and she thought it was a great idea.

On her ceiling is a poster of her sport and the words “It doesn’t get easier - you just get faster”.

That sums dd up very well….

I want that tbh

IncyWincyGrownUp · 30/07/2022 21:00

The big teen has a few posters, a big cork board full of mementoes, a large fabric reproduction of the great wave covering one wall, and a couple of lgbtqia flags draped about the place.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 30/07/2022 21:04

Yep, dd’s (15) walls are covered in posters. Mostly Stranger Things and Anime. She’s always bringing new ones home from hmv and she somehow manages to find space for them!

spiderlight · 30/07/2022 21:08

Mine (15) has quite a few: one big poster of the evolution of Ferrari F1 cars, a couple of posters from a Japanese car magazine, some prints from a motorsport magazine, a mahoosive signed framed cartoon poster from some Australian car YouTube channel that cost me a bloody fortune to import, and a Japanese cherry-blossom tree, as well as various framed photos of himself driving fancy cars on track days. They are mostly very neatly lined up and artfully arranged though, unlike my hundreds of tatty Def Leppard posters from back in the day!

LadyWithLapdog · 30/07/2022 21:17

Photos, concert tickets, fake vine leaves, fairy lights, Ariana Grande and Harry Styles posters.

Titsywoo · 30/07/2022 21:19

My DD did from 13 to 16 when she was a massive KPop fan. At 17 she took them all down and now prefers arty stuff.

InglouriousBasterd · 30/07/2022 21:22

DD has a Stranger Things one that quite frankly I’d like - but it was from a dedicated shop, unlike my torn out Take That ones from Smash Hits! She also has lots of photos.
