Gaming during the Summer holidays. How much is too much?

Maybe I’m looking at the past through rose tinted glasses but the world our DC live in is so different now.

DC aged 11 and 9; both love gaming. I do restrict game time. During term time, they only have games time over a weekend with the odd allowance during the week. On a weekend it’s usually a couple of hours in the am and the same in the pm.

During school holidays it’s more relaxed but I still feel it’s too much as they want to be gaming every day.

We do go out to play football at the local park. They go swimming and one DS plays football for a local youth club two nights per week. The other DS does this once per week.

Neither will play with toys or play outside with friends but they do occasionally like to draw or colour or build Lego. However, this is mostly as they wait around for their next gaming slot.

Both DC have SEN and are quite obsessive about gaming. Does it sound like the balance is right?

if it works for you, that is fine.

mine are similar ages and get max 2 hrs minecraft per day, plus sometimes a bit of extra time to play with their dad.

what trips do you do out of the house? mine get grumpy hanging around at home where the games are just there but not allowed. but they are fine if we get out of the house for a walk or similar. I'll even take a picnic rug & snacks & Top-trumps or Uno & some comic books and sit in the park for 2 hrs to get out of the house.

Usually swimming and out to play football at the local grounds is our trip out. We do have the occasional day trip too. Younger DS does not cope well with busy places and does not like to leave home at all so it’s a fine act of getting them out for fresh air but meeting his needs.
