… was the same as your DP’s surname, would you take it on after marriage?

Not personally.

But I know of a child called Bobby Roberts (birth name) and a Tracey Spacey (married name) 😆

I knew a Simone Simon, with the Simon pronounced in the French way. Always sounded like a character from a detective film.

I like sharing a surname with my husband and kids. I took my husband's surname because I preferred it to mine. I think in the circumstances you described I would see if my husband would use my name or fancied changing to a whole new surname. If not I would probably keep my own name.

Oo yes I would, I like the idea of that

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 29/07/2022 18:13

I wouldn't change my name under any pretext, hence the MN screen moniker!

Gary Nevilles dad: Neville Neville 😉

I didn't change my surname on marriage but I would have in this scenario.

Terfydactyl · 29/07/2022 19:10

Well if it was going to be badass like Magnus magnuson then yeah but sadly mine would be along the lines of Betty Betty. Not quite the badass kind of thing I'd be looking for.

I was a poll clerk once and over the day two couples came in who husband and wife had the same name, like they were called Lesley/Leslie. Made getting their poll numbers a bit complicated. Oh, and Betty Butter.

About 25 years ago I remember ringing an IT helpline and the woman on the other end was Alison Alison. She just said "I know!" when she said her name.

Although that was not as bizarre as the time my colleague Debbie Lewis (name changed but similar in popularity so common but not Smith level) rang the same helpline and the woman on the other end has the same name as her. They were rather confused for a few moments as the woman said "No that's my name - what's your name?" and my colleague said the same back.

FessedUp · 30/07/2022 00:50

I worked with a woman who had the same names for first and last names. I won't name her. She was very traditional, and wouldn't have done otherwise. Sounded a bit silly, though!

NeedASolution · 30/07/2022 00:53

i would only change my name for an upgrade, so no.
