Can I/should I pay DS to do some decorating while he's claiming JSA?

21yo DS had a job that seemed to be going really well, he'd been getting excellent feedback, but it became clear that the shop he was working in was over staffed and today he's been told he hasn't passed his probation.

So he's gone, without notice. Nothing he can do, even though they haven't followed their own process and he'd been told all along he was doing really well.

So, while he looks for other work, he'll be claiming JSA.

I'm a single parent with a busy job and the house could do with some work, painting mostly. To give DS something to do, I was going to ask him to make a start. I'd have probably ended up paying someone to do it. Would it be wrong to give him a few quid? I'd like to make it a paid "job" to make sure it's treated as real work rather than something he does if he fancies it iyswim.

Presumably as his mother I'm allowed to give him cash as a gift while he's facing hard times, but am I allowed to pay him for work?

Would you?

I would do this as long as he still had time to job hunt

Wouldn’t give it a second thought gift him what you want
your not properly employing him insurance and wage slips
it a lad helping his mum and you giving him a gift ( money)

Just don't say it's payment to anyone else. Only a belated Easter Xmas birthday gift from mum to son

People on JSA are allowed to do DIY for their mum - own home
They are also allowed to have gifts from their parents! It's not work and he must not declare it as work

Do it but give it to him in cash because they can and do check bank accounts, just makes it easier for him.

He's doing a one-off bit of DIY for his mum in his own home, he's hardly fiddling the system.

I wondered about this, with everything being paid electronically now, cash wouldn't be his preference, but it's best?
