What happens if single parent with no one available to look after siblings needs to take child to A&E?

Had to take ds to A&E last week and my mum was able to come over and look after siblings while I took him. There were signs all over saying one parent only and no siblings.

My parents aren't always available and eldest has SEN and won't be looked after by anyone else. Now I'm worrying what would happen if dp weren't around and I had to take one dc to A&E (I'm a single parent and other parent lives 50 miles away)?

I realise it's unlikely but still niggling at me.

I had both my children overnight in 2 different hospitals at the same time, when DH was deployed, once. One was for tests, which desperately needed doing, the other was an emergency admission for an asthma attack.

My friend, whose husband was also deployed, who was looking after the one who had the asthma attack stayed at the hospital with him and her older teen looked after her other child, while I stayed at the other hospital 40 miles away. I did speak to DS2’s consultant to make sure he was going to be ok and I would be fine to stay with DS1.

I phoned my mum, hoping she’d come to help out, but all she said was “sounds like a nightmare, I hope you get something sorted.”

You would obviously just take them with you. I was in A&E with a dc last week with a broken arm and there were entire families there. There was a guy in the bay next to us (actual adult male) who had a non-retracting foreskin who brought his girlfriend and they were making out in bed most of the time they were there. Even when dc was admitted to the ward, Dh and I were both there for several hours.
