I'm thinking about doing an Alevel just for fun

I did maths and science Alevels 40 years ago!

Now I find myself with some time on my hands and rather than spend it scrolling through MN, I thought I'd try learning something new to keep me young!

As I've got older, I've got more political so I thought maybe Politics. It seems interesting times and it would be good to understand the system better.

Is Alevel the best way to do it or is there another way? I know I could just read but I like the idea of a structure and something to aim for at the end.

Check out FutureLearn...loads of free courses at different levels on all sorts of subjects. I've done about 5, they were all of a high standard.

The Mature Study and Retraining board is here:

in case you feel like taking your studies any further, or just want to browse other people’s experiences.

I did a GCSE for fun at a local adult education college for similar reasons. I loved it but tried to move onto A level and found the choice in my area much more limited and the classes all started at 6pm (not possible for me to get to after work) so I started a degree in the same subject with the OU.
There's a mature training board if you're interested.
I've now nearly finished my OU degree and have really enjoyed it - you can do standalone modules rather than work towards a qualification. Each 30-credit OU module cost less than my GCSE class did but we only have one or two tutorials every term (although this varied by subject I think), whereas my GCSE class was weekly and we had a very sociable group, which was one of my major reasons for doing it.
Depends on what you're looking for really!

Brilliant idea. I am 2nd year into an Open University 'just for fun'.

Another vote for Open Uni! They're geared up for adult, distance, learning and the teaching materials are excellent. Self-study A-level can be a hassle with registering at an exam centre, paperwork, etc.

Definitely look at Open University - you don’t have to commit to a whole degree. You can take individual modules (some of which have certificates). They also have some free courses.
I’ve also found most FutureLearn courses to be really good.
