Slow cooker advice

Is anyone good with a slow cooker? I have seen some recipes I like but most need frying off or cooking before putting in the SC. I really want to try and get some healthy meals on the table and be more prepared so I’d like some recipes that don’t involve cooking at the start, ie those recipes that you Chuck everything in, go to work, come home and tea is ready.

can anyone offer any advice or recipes for a complete novice. I’ve got an instant pot.

Check out www.tamingtwins.com/ she has loads of slow cooker recipes.

I find with browning off meat depends on the fat content and type of meat. I hate doing it early morning as I don't need that smell first thing.

You can definitely make dump bags that have everything chopped and ready to dump in the slow cooker in the morning. I've not done that yet though.

Usually most recipes can be amended for the slow cooker - you need less fluid/stock/sauce in general but it's worth trying some tried and tested recipes first

I have something in the slow cooker right now.

You can brown off meat on the stove in the pot of the slow cooker if you buy a decent one. I have the Crock Pot DuraCeramic, which got excellent reviews, and I'm happy with it.

To add, I do stews in them and soup, and chicken korma (just boil or steam rice when you're ready to eat).

Just bear in mind that because they operate at a lower heat than an oven water doesn't evaporate as easily so be mindful of that when cooking. Eg a tin of chopped tomatoes wouldn't thicken up as quickly.
