Employers and Cost of Living

I work for a large corporate company and there are rumblings we might get a cost of living payment or a further wage increase.

Interested to hear if any other employers are going to help their employees and how?

Sweet FA

We're likely to do decent wage increases, but there's a hiring freeze in order to pay for it. So not altogether great news.

Fuwari · 27/07/2022 17:19

When the NI hike came in, we got a small rise to offset it. Which was helpful. It at least meant my wages didn't go down. Other than that, not much!

I got a £1000 cost of living increase last month. On my salary of just over £30k, it amounts to a 3% rise. Better than a kick in the teeth, but with inflation running at 9%+ it doesn't really touch the sides

HundredMilesAnHour · 27/07/2022 17:26

Nope. We don't get anything not even pay rises (ever). No surprise that lots of people are now leaving. Apparently senior management don't care as there are plenty of new people applying (it's a very good name to work for).

Our initial pay rise for this year was 0.5% and unions negotiated it up to 3% due to the cost of living crisis.

DH company received a £500 one off payment earlier this year but still hoping for a payrise later.

Alfiemoon1 · 27/07/2022 17:33

I got and will get nothing. Dh is in pay talks with his company they do this every year btw so drags on and then they get it back pay. Not sure what percentage they are aiming for this year

chilliesandspices · 27/07/2022 17:43

£2,000 pay rise for everyone regardless of grade so it helps people on the lower end of the scale most.

MintJulia · 27/07/2022 17:45

3%

Onthegrid · 27/07/2022 17:45

My employer doesn't do annual increases, never have, never will, I feel sorry for the staff in general and with inflation/cost of living as it is now I hate to see my pay being eroded. The fact that they actively avoid anything that amounts to a pay or benefits discussion actually makes me mad especially now when it is hard to ignore. They were also crap during the Covid/furlough time.

LightandMomentary · 27/07/2022 17:45

Nope, but I know that they can't afford it either (will go broke).

BlueSkyWarmSea · 27/07/2022 18:16

In my company the pay rise you get personally is dependent on your performance the previous year, but they tell you the average across the company (UK). It had been originally budgeted at 2.5%, but thankfully they upped it to 4% just before announcing it, which I am grateful for as I realise a lot of people are getting nothing.
