Just bumped my head on the cabinet above our loo, the door opens at head height, and nearly got trapped in the utility due to poor placing of door handles where 2 doors knock into each other.

There's also a random door - that we ran out of steam with builders to work out what to do with...so it needs to come off - but we find it handy to corral the cats for the vets so it hasn't yet...

@Beees I have TWO cutlery drawers, and a drawer for implements, and a drawer for sharp things (knives have their own rack things inside the drawer) and a drawer for foil, cling film, baking paper, plastic bags etc. Just realised that I only have 15 drawers not 18 - but it's still great 😁

You're living the dream! I'm not even going to pretend I'm not jealous but I absolutely am. Shock

Our buyers are going to wonder why our extension is the long thin shape it is. It was too expensive to do it any other way. But really it should either be longer or shorter. But it's the size it is as it leaves just enough room for husband's bbq. Shame if they have a different size bbq.

Probably the downstairs bathroom. Not an issue for us when we moved in and we just moved it when we had a single storey extension done. To my mind having 3 bedrooms rather than 2 is worth it but I know it's a deal breaker for some people 🤷‍♀️

It would be a plus for us. Our next house must have a downstairs bathroom - or a way of installing one - in case we become unable to climb stairs.

nanodyne · 28/07/2022 10:15

We had the chimneys capped and the shafts insulated in our 300y old cottage. I'm sure whoever moves in next (if we ever sell) will be annoyed that we didn't fork out for a woodburner (assuming they're still legal/fashionable) but I couldn't be bothered with the hassle and pollution of fires.

DilemmaDelilah · 28/07/2022 10:43

@Beees it absolutely is the dream... But we chose a dream kitchen over lots of lovely holidays and a new car - so it just depends on priorities I guess. It cost a FORTUNE!

MsRead · 28/07/2022 10:45

We have a large 18th century laundry cupboard which is used to store dry goods in the kitchen. I recently redecorated in a colour that was matched to the wall but it is slightly darker/ different finish. Cupboard is a bugger to move, and only professional movers have attempted it in the previous two houses, so I painted round it.

Any new owners of this house will eventually notice the different colours, if I’m feeling kindly towards them I may just leave the colour name, brand and the unopened spare tin in the garage. Mess me about when if I sell and the paint comes with me.

Oooo that is nice! I love to daydream about my dream kitchen and it always has lots of drawers and cupboards. Not that my current kitchen is that bad, I've got a cutlery drawer, a utensil drawer, a deep plastic tub drawer, another drawer for the lids for the tubs, and two bread boards that pull out like drawers. And cupboards going from floor to ceiling, no wasted space at the top.

RockinHorseShit · 28/07/2022 11:11

Hopefully nothing as we've been correcting it all over the years.

We found some absolute doozies here though🥴

Eg

Wooden Swedish sauna ground floor & very low ceilings ... we gained a foot in ceiling height & lots of light ... just why 🥴

Our kitchen fitters had a nightmare removing the old kitchen as it turned out to be made of poured concrete under the naff 70s brown tiles.Confused

Original Kitchen had several cupboards that were 4" deep... Confused

Our boiler was in the most ridiculous place in the kitchen & wasted a ton of useful space, cost a fortune to move it, but WTAF put it there in the first place Confused

Ripping out the old bathroom & airing cupboard to make a better bathroom. Turned out the walls & ceiling were filled with an absolute ton of what looked & smelled like coal dust. The poor guy who took the ceiling down went from blonde white guy, to a jet black coal dust monster with eyes popping out. Poor lad just wailed 🥴

Bolts on the outside of rooms & bathrooms Confused

I could go on 🥴😂

DilemmaDelilah · 28/07/2022 12:49

@Natsku I have cupboards that go up to the ceiling too! Before that my DH used to put random stuff on top of the cupboards, it always looked a mess and got dirty.

Natsku · 28/07/2022 13:11

Never understood having cupboards that don't reach the ceiling, just wasted space that gathers dust and grime, or then like you said, holds stuff that then gathers dust and grime! Its the same with wardrobes, all that wasted space at the top - we have built in cupboards/wardrobes that go up as high as they can (which, tbf, isn't very high as our upstairs is the loft so the slanted ceilings but in previous houses they've been up to normal ceiling height so lots of bedroom storage)

Aria999 · 28/07/2022 14:50

DS's room probably. It has two purple walls, two pale pink walls, and terracotta windows

It actually looks quite good in a weird way but it is a long way from the off-white everything we normally go for.

I had promised DS he could have pink and purple, I then spent ages on Home Depot's color planner app finding a combination that was even slightly bearable 🤣

BeyondMyWits · 28/07/2022 16:52

Dd21's room is still decorated as "the nursery" with Winnie the pooh and piglet and eeyore and kanga and tigger decals with cute little flowers and bees... suppoooooooosedly peelable... wrong, they are not, not even using a hairdryer on them.

She doesn't mind and said no whenever we say we will redecorate, she has a nostalgic fondness for them.... but it does look tatty 21 years on...

dudsville · 28/07/2022 17:32

Loving the presence/absence of drawer talk. We kept the kitchen that was in when we arrived - not to everyone's taste, it's very dated, but its in perfect condition and we hlove it. It came with loads of storage/cupboards and re drawers, we have four cutlery-shaped drawers, and another four that are for pans, etc. I'm feeling "drawer-rich" from reading this thread.

Several of our light switches are upside down, so off is on and vice versa. Obviously a mistake but we can't be bothered to fix it!

We once had a ceiling fall in. We needed to get a plasterer to sort it at short notice, so we took the first one available, and as we needed some ceiling lighting altering we got that done at the same time, using an electrician friend of the plasterers...

The electrician did 4 things, and they were all wrong. Light switch upside down. Pendant light in front of the window not central. Another pendant in an alcove not central. Strip light crooked.

Luckily DH is handy and adjusted them later.

BarrelOfOtters2 · 29/07/2022 07:20

Every single light switch in our house, apart from the ones we put in, is crooked.

new owners will also wonder why the only 2 west facing windows are in bathrooms, with beautiful evening light flooding in to highlight the sanitary ware. It’s why we’ve got a frosted glass panel in the top of the loo door.

loving the drawer angst.
