Pe trainers secondary school

DS is starting secondary? He is only a size 3/4 so still in child's size. He needs Velcro as he has asd and can't do laces yet.

Not looking to spend much but don't want to get anything too cheap

I remember kids used to be assholes over what shoes, brand trainers or clothes you wore or what bag you had. Is it still the same now?? I feel DS is already vulnerable to bullies 😩 hoping things have changed. My mum used to pick my clothes and I felt picked on for it!! Ds doesn't have a preference though.

but yes reasonable trainer ideas please, usually I use an older pair for PE and buy a new pair for home but he hasn't got much suitable to take!!

If he’s still in children’s sizes you should have a decent choice going somewhere like a big Sports direct. Decathlon used to do good ones too.

Have school said anything about needing rugby/ football boots too? Ours has a 3G pitch that only certain studs can be worn on, then other grass pitches that often need full metal studs in the depth of winter. It’s a pita to be honest!

Get him trainers with laces & put hickies in them then they won't look any different to anyone else's. It's great being able to buy kids trainers, you save loads that way, look on the Adidas or Nike outlet.

My DD's feet were Size 1 when she started year 7 & she is an extremely slow moving girl! Eats slowly, talks slowly, walks slowly so we were looking for ways to speed her up so she didn't get into trouble.

One thing was elastic show laces so shoes can just be pulled on/off. That couple of minutes really helped her keep up.

Both her & DS wear Nike or Adidas trainers usually & we often get them in Sports Direct/online.

Dark colours that are understated, same with rucksacks (sports brands) seem to be what most kids have here.

I got my son some from sports direct about £20 ( these are his normal ones he's only 5) but they were reasonable

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 26/07/2022 20:32

Are they allowed to wear trainers for school? Ours are allowed to wear trainers as long as all black eg no colour ticks or sole? If so they could wear same shoes for PE? With elasticated laces?? Depends how much outside they will do if they get wet I suppose?

No, not allowed trainers! I'm after Pe trainers. Haven't even attempted to look at school shoes yet 😩

They have suggested that football boots might be needed but to wait and see what they will participate in first apparently. So I'm not going into rush into buying them but needs the trainers. Thank you!

decathlon
and check school requirements. ours say white soles for indoors(non marking not enough) and track soles for outdoors.

also look up lock laces so that dc is more flexible with the kind of shoes.

yoshiblue · 26/07/2022 20:45

My DS has sensory issues and loves these from Decathlon

www.decathlon.co.uk/p/kids-rip-tab-trainers-pw-540-jr/_/R-p-164271?mc=8579738&c=BLACK

He won't wear any others and I just keep buying the next size up. They have white soles and also wear well.

My son had finished secondary now but yes, the boys especially can still be idiots about trainers. My daughter is in year 8 and isn’t as bothered although she is a very different child.

For PE though, I would say as long as they’re Nike or Adidas, he’ll be fine. They don’t have to be really expensive. My son liked expensive trainers for home 🙄 but for PE just had some more basic Nike/Adidas snd never had any issues. Still about £50 but you should be able to get cheaper as he’s in smaller sizes.

LIZS · 26/07/2022 20:51

You can get silicon no tie laces or lock-laces which would be less obvious than velcro. Decathlon or Deichmann for entry level brands like nike or adidas, non marking sole.

timtam23 · 26/07/2022 21:34

I have always bought PE trainers from Decathlon (their own-brand) and there have been no issues with teasing or bullying, DCs are y9 and y7 and both still in kids' sizes. They wear them for 2-3 hours a week, I didn't want to pay more money for branded trainers when they're still outgrowing them fairly quickly

BiscoffSundae · 26/07/2022 21:36

3/4? Gosh my son is year 5 and a size 7 🙄 actually rather jealous as the prices are cheap when they are small sizes, my son was made fun of for not having nikes so yes kids can still be cruel but they double in price once it’s adult sizes

Iwasjustasking · 26/07/2022 22:34

My dd is now going into year 8, Nike Air Force 1’s or Jordan’s are what everyone wears

SardineJam · 26/07/2022 22:36

Nike do a range 'fly ease' I think that are velcro at all sizes, they may work!
