Hypoglycaemia in kids?

Does anyone know anything about this?

We are away in France at the moment and will take DD7 to docs when I'm back as I just think there's something not right. So not trying to self diagnosis on the internet! But quite curious.

She's generally a healthy happy child but she does seem to have issues around food at times. Sometimes she eats really well but often (and on holiday) she just hardly eats anything, she's hardly had a proper meal since we got here 10 days ago. She is thriving generally and growing well (v tall) but very slim. Still on healthy BMI scale but on 4th centile.

You can just see the energy zap out of her frequently and she goes really pale. This has been an ongoing thing but we normally just get some grub down her and she's fine.

Anyway, today she's not really eaten anything all day of any substance. Been travelling and then swimming. She started saying her tummy hurts but she often says this often when she's hungry. Got to the restaurant and she vomited. Mostly water. ☹️ brought her back to our caravan and she was starving! Seems fine now after a bit to eat.

I don't think it will be a bug as we've kept to ourselves for the last 2 weeks but read random vomiting like this can be due to low blood sugar.

Not sure what I need to do to help other than try and get her to eat better? Or could it be some underlying condition? (I don't think she's type 1)?

Tried all the usual tactics when she refuses like no pudding, treats or just leaving her to natural consequences of no energy blah blah but has little effect.

I do think being sick in public and missing the mini disco might make her take some responsibility over her eating

@runforyourdog I hate to say it but on days when my KH kid is being fussy with food or hasn’t got an appetite or is super tired or exerting a lot of energy (there’s a long list of things to look out for!) I get the hypotonic lucozade (still one in sports bottle). That works to keep them stable.

Whoops, I meant isotonic lucozade.

Had another similarly frustrating day/evening (no vom today but not much eating). I don't know if psychological or physical or a bit of both!

She just says she doesn't know but she just doesn't like 'french food' (dinner tonight was chicken nuggets and chips).

I just don't know what to do.

Maybe you could scrap the idea of ‘meals’ and just try to make sure she eats something every hour or so
You could make up a lunchbox of a balanced day of food, but just get her to eat a bit of it every now and again as long as it’s all gone at the end of the day
Is she able to understand if you explain to her about food being necessary for health and energy and a bit about why?
I think I would also be a little bit more strict and say things like ‘no you can’t swim you haven’t had enough to eat and you’ll be sick’ she really can’t see food as an option

We had a bit of a heart to heart after she refused food again last night. She had become anxious about eating where she vomited which is fair. So I said that she could choose the menu today. We don't have to eat out. (Choose from what we have, might I add).

She hasn't eaten loads at meals but enough plus a bit of crap and we've had a great day! Energy levels up most of the day and everyone happy.

Just trying to get through last few days of hol with happy kids but need to work out what to do when we get home if this continues.

She totally understand what a balanced diet is it's not that.
