Cats expert's. Cross breed cat, if cat was a ragdoll x Bengal but looked like the ragdoll, does that also determine personality?

As above really.

Would the cat be more like the ragdoll, chilled or more like the Bengal, wild? Or doesn't it matter , could be either or?

Could be either/or.

JustALittleHelpPlease · 26/07/2022 16:02

Could be either also not all ragdolls are chilled. Our family had two. One used to bring in rabbits, the other squirrels. Not the floppy housecats they paid stupid money for.

I think most people here will insist on seeing a picture of the cat before offering you any sort of opinion.

Not me though.

It doesn't matter whether it's a wild Bengal or an evil ragdoll; it will enslave you and make you do its bidding either way.

MY DF kept Bengals without any attitude from them at all. Clever, soppy cars with dog traits like joining DF for his nightly walk

He now has 2 gorgeous pure bred ragdolls. Boy cat is a bigsoppy bear. Girl cat is a lovable little demon, that leaves all other cats, Bengals included, in the shade with naughty antics

Our half black moggy, half Bengal, is Jekyll & Hide, with a love of water & digging holes, but as soppy as any rag doll when she wants a cuddle

It's the luck of the draw

Genes and traits do not work like programmes do. It's anyone's guess what you get at the end in terms of personality whether it's cats, dogs, humans, etc.

Shellingbynight · 26/07/2022 17:09

As others have said, there's no way of knowing.
I had a Bengal x Burmese and she had traits of both. She wasn't 'wild' but she was more strong willed than my Burmese (who are strong willed enough to start with).

I have 2 half ragdolls from the same litter. They are completely different personalities. One is very interested in people. The other hates people, especially men! My adult DS is the only man she will let near her. Otherwise she hides under my bed. No idea how as the base is only 2 inches from the ground! One is very much a lap cat, the other isn’t. But the one who isn’t adores belly rubs whereas the lap cat hates them. One is super intelligent and will play fetch like a dog but the other is a more impressive hunter. They are totally different.

The story of my non-floppy ragdoll, who is living his best life: We have a ragdoll. I had no idea what I had let myself in for when I brought my kitten home. It was wild 😝
I was attacked by kitty regularly, favourite attack place was the stairs. Very rarely that I made it up/down the stairs in one piece. Visitors were scared of said ragdoll.
I was told I would need to keep a ragdoll inside and had to agree to do this by the breeder. It’s difficult to keep a ragdoll inside when they open the door handles and climb out the windows.
Kitty now comes and goes out of the houses as he pleases, thankfully he seems to have moved onto hunting vermin rather than myself. He is essentially a farm cat by night but spends his days inside.
Oh and he also keeps the dogs in check, often can be seen chasing one down the road.
I think as previous posters have said, cats can have very different personalities just like humans🤣

Are you the same poster who was asking about cross breeds the other day?

GoodVibesHere · 26/07/2022 18:52

The looks won't determine personality traits, so you could have a ragdoll 'look' with Bengal traits. However, mixing ragdoll with Bengal is a strange combo, considering their somewhat opposite natural traits. So goodness knows what you'll get!

Why?

Because this question was answered then

A Ragdoll x Bengal mix that looks like a Ragdoll can have either personality. Appearance doesn’t determine behavior. It could be calm like a Ragdoll, energetic like a Bengal, or a mix of both. Personality in crossbreeds is unpredictable.
