Flying alone with two kids under 2

Has anyone ever done it?

I have a 22 month old son and a 5 month old daughter. I need to take them on a short haul flight soon (about one hour and 40 minutes).

First of all, is it possible? Skyscanner doesn't allow me to book flights for two children under 2 if I'm the only adult traveller.

Secondally, if you did it, how did you survive? What are your survival tips? 😂😂

Thanks in advance xx

I presume you are booking a seat for the 22 month old? Although they can be on your lap I think with two children that won't be allowed? I'd say you will have to call an agent/airline to book as I expect online algorithms will say no.

I've done UK to Australia with 2 little kids but not on my own so I'd say lots of snacks and a few new toys wrapped up to entertain older child. NOT LEGO (they lose the bits everywhere). Little pot of playdo or sticker books work well.

You will need to book over the phone, and I think need a travel approved carseat for one of them, as only one can be on your knee when the seat belt sign is on.
Are you potentially flying with a national carrier, or a discount brand?

I'm flying with Lufthansa :)

I think the 22 month old can't sit in his own seat. I need to have one of the kids on my lap and the other one in a car seat next to me.

I’ve done it and it was a ducking nightmare. Got separated from my bags (money/tech etc) during security and they got cross with my 22 month old for not raising his arms and standing still inside the scanner. Lost the baby’s bottle during the melee. The staff were cunts, the kids were great. It’s a miracle my purse/laptop weren’t stolen.

Most airlines only allow one infant per adult passenger, so you may not be able to fly with them both. Some allow two if the older infant is in a car seat, the airline will provide a list of approved restraints for various aircraft.

I’ve flown with one as an only adult, he was almost two, to be honest he slept really well, it was a night flight both times and I did everything I could to keep him awake in the airport. Just remember toys etc can’t be noisy or bulky, which can be tricky as so many toddler toys are either huge or noisy. If he needed them I had a new stacking cup set, but they were ruberised so if he whacked them together they weren’t noisey. When he was awake he very much enjoyed having his own TV, that kept him very entertained, I just had to make sure he wasn’t kicking/hitting the chair in front, or rocking back in his own chair too much.

I imagine the four month old will be much easier, our daughter flew in April when she was five months old, she was in a chewing phase and apparently spent most of the flight chewing giraffey, she did however hate the cot thing, so my husband had to lay her on the floor when he had his in flight meal, as they were sat at the bulk head and he had booked her a seat, there was lots of room on the floor for a blanket, toys etc without getting in anyones way.

Just remember if any of them need changing, or if you need the loo you’ll be in a tiny plane toilet with all three of them. I’ve done it with me and just on toddler and that was enough of a nightmare, so it would probably be best if you don’t need to use the toilet while you’re on the plane to reduce toilet trips.

Yes but you have to put that car seat into an airplane seat. Not on the floor. So he needs a booked seat.
