Anyone been to the Space Centre at Nottingham?

Is it just for kids?
It’s DH’s birthday this week and he’s really into flying / airplanes etc. but we’ve done loads of flying type things and I thought this might be a bit different.
I mentioned it to ds(16) who gave it a promising sort of nod, so I went onto the website but all the photos seem to be of 10 year olds …
Also, it would be quite a drive for us, so would it be worth it?

DH loved it when he took our dc. Plenty for adults to be enthused by.

Brilliant - thanks for the response. That might be the birthday treat sorted then 😁

I don't know about one in Nottingham but the National Space Centre Leicester is really good and not far from Nottingham. Really informative with lots of displays for adults as well as kids and a planetarium. I'd say yes.
If he's in to flying, I assume he's been to the imperial war museum at Duxford, that's a good day out too.

Do you mean in Leicester. AFIK there isn’t one in Nottingham

igivein · 25/07/2022 10:54

Thanks @xyzandabc I maybe have the location wrong - I just put National Space Centre in the search, are there two space centres.
Yes we’ve been to Duxford.

I've taken younger kids there many times (Leicester - there's definitely not one in Nottingham). I love it. It's not huge, but it is packed with interactive exhibits. There's a life size rocket, planetarium with movies playing throughout the day, last time I went there was a booth you could record your own weather forecast, and there's a swirly hole you put your head in to simulate zero gravity that makes me feel sick for 30mins after.

I loved it as an adult. Have you also tried the shuttleworth collection? Vintage planes but lots of special events.

We really enjoyed the Space Centre. We’re in our 60s and went on our own. It was an excellent afternoon.

Took my 8yr old a couple of months ago and she loved it, it shares a car park with abbey pumping station so take a look and see if they are running any events on the day you are going. It's a museum for steam powered engines and things like that so they often have a little steam engine doing rides and tractors, fire engines, old ambulances and such like.

Yes I think most adults would find it quite interesting and very well laid out.

Cleothecat75 · 25/07/2022 13:56

We really enjoyed it. Including dd, who hates museums and is not really interested in space. I’d definitely go back.

igivein · 25/07/2022 13:57

Thanks everyone, it sounds like it would be worth a trip.

My 5 year old loved it. There is also the Newark air museum...
