Good remedies for mosquito bites?

Mosquitoes were out in force at the campsite we are staying at in France last night.. I've got a big solid lump in my forehead and a very fat foot where I have a few bites.

What is best to do to deal with this? No signs of infection so more of a reaction so would anti histamines work? If so, any recommendations of what I will be able to get hold of in France that will be good?

Anti bac gel and anti histamines

Piriteze tablets are the only thing that work for me.

Press your thumbnail firmly into the bump. Do the same to make a cross.

Antihistamine cream is excellent.

Press the back of a hot spoon (heated in boiling water) onto the bite as soon as possible after you detect one.

Or dab with white vinegar.

Hydrocortisone cream works really well too.

I'm in the US and have a benadryl gel (antihistamine) which works well. Not sure what you can lay your hands on in France though.

Can you find a citronella candle to burn outdoors if you're sitting out?

Huntswomanonthemove · 24/07/2022 22:26

Definitely hydrocortisone cream.

Body shop peppermint foot spray is excellent for subduing the itch, I found out by accident

If you can get to a pharmacy, you could buy Apres Piques (a children's product for mozzie bites) or Apaisyl, Synthol, or Anthisan for you.

Ask the pharmacist if there's a mosquito repellent spray available. This may require some creative use of Google translate.

See if pharmacy or asian shop has tiger balm. Works great for me

Aloe Vera and antihistamine

toothgenie · 24/07/2022 23:15

Antihistamines and a gel called BUTIX. Worked well when we visited regularly.

Hardtofindafreename · 25/07/2022 00:58

@UWhatNow it's the only thing that works for me. Dh was working in China and got bitten and a colleague gave him some. Without it I get big angry looking welts.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 25/07/2022 01:03

Ammonia pen.

Best spray repellent I've ever had was a Spanish one called Halley - I know that it's a bit late now, but if you need to stock up it is excellent! DC used to get eaten alive, and always had horrendous reactions to even one single bite. As soon as we started using Halley they barely got bitten at all, and even if they did, it was nowhere near as bad.

If you start getting itchy, tea tree oil is wonderful. It just seems to kill the need to scratch immediately.
