Drusillas Park - info

I'm turning to mumsnet again as I always find helpful advice on here.

I've been to Drusillas Park a few years ago when DD was a baby. She is now almost 5 and I'd like to take her again.

The issue is getting there. I'm separating from H and he used to drive us everywhere. I'm a nervous driver, don't do fast roads, so getting there from London and having a full day out will be a challenge. I'm thinking of taking the train and staying somewhere overnight. Then next day coming back to London either that evening or staying in a hotel for another night.

What would be the closest train station and the closest town to spend one or two nights? Then walk or take a taxi to Drusillas Park? Would all this be worth it?

Very difficult place to get to without a car, the nearest station would be Berwick or Seaford. You would need to pre book a taxi though. For drop off & pick up.

There is accommodations in Alfriston, star inn may have changed name, owned by Alex Polizzi, and a BW Deans Place, and some other accommodations -not a lot in the village, but it is pretty albeit with a lot of traffic going through it!

Is it easy to find a taxi in Alfriston?

Have you thought of some other options that may be easier to get to, Paultons park, or Gullivers world?

I haven't. Is Paultons easy to get to? We went last year, again by car, so don't know how easy is it getting to it by train?

Gulliver's World is too far from London

No rank at all. But if you could pre book one from Seaford or Eastbourne.

There is a station at Glynde as well, which is about 6 miles from Drusillas

I think the poster meant Gulliver’s Land in Milton Keynes just off the M1 not Gulliver’s World in Warrington, Cheshire.

Have you thought about spending the hotel/train money on some driving lessons to enhance your confidence? That may be a better longterm solution.

pogostickplastique · 24/07/2022 16:27

The A27 is invariably slow due to the traffic/road works etc so I wouldn't worry about it being a fast road

I do drive a lot, but mainly on 20, 30 max 40 miles roads. I'm absolutely terrified of motorways, especially with DD in my car. I'm ok-ish on my own. I don't think I'll ever overcome this fear, I had a few scares in the past and I'm not willing to put myself through it again.

There's a summer bus that goes there!

It also stops at middle farm, which is a small working farm.

I'd recommend staying in Eastbourne. There's a range of hotels for different budgets.

Drusilla's is great, we've been members for 11 years now.

Yay! That's brilliant, thank you for that!

You can get motorway specific lessons.

if you aren’t confident driving you’ll be much safer with additional lessons. Nervous drivers who cannot control a car up to the legal speed limit or manoeuvre around other road users on dual carriageways etc, often aren’t safe to be driving generally. If you refuse to go over 40mph, you shouldn’t really be driving and would benefit from additional support/training.

You're welcome!

There's a splash pad now, so pack swimming stuff.

I hope you both have a great time!

Where in London?

It's not a scary road. Can you set off early and avoid tradfic and m25?

We are in South West London. I guess I could try to avoid M25. Haven't looked into that. I'm always worried I'll end up on the motorway anyway

During the summer, Brighton buses run a limited service 11X Coastliner on Sundays only. It starts at Brighton train station, and drops off inside Drusillas. It takes an hour to get there, but only runs 3 times a day. www.buses.co.uk/services/BH/11X?date=2022-07-31&direction=outbound
