Listening to what your body says..

I have been attracted to the idea of yoga for years, finally got stuck in, joined local class, studied vids at home and what have you.
Also did a lot of theoretical study as was interested, due to already practicing meditation, so felt it was a natural progression for me.

Well, that didn't quite turn out as expected. After weeks of yoga, I weirdly altered my mindset in a way that didn't feel like 'me'. My body, allowing for newness, didn't feel so good. As time went on, I felt stressed out, but didn't admit to it, and my daily practice left me cold.

Then one evening I discovered some videos from the Scottish Ballet for warm ups (I am not a dancer!). I had danced from the age of 6 to 9 but remember very little. Suddenly my body came alive and I found that it naturally suited me. This had a corresponding affect on my stress levels and I looked forward to doing more.

Has anyone else ever really thought a thing was for them, but discovered it really didn't sit them? The idea of something is often not the same as actually doing it, obviously! I had no idea that ballet movements and warm ups were more my cup of tea and would never have guessed. I also do cycling and a lot of walking, but wanted to incorporate some strength and stretching.

Feels odd at nearly 50, but I never knew my feet and legs were so flexible! I can't do a plank in yoga but my body instantly fell into a relaxed and happy grand pliet in correct position. Freaky.
