Monkeypox - should we be worried?

I’m not sure, but what are we meant to make of today’s announcement that the WHO have now declared it a global health emergency?

The thing that worries me is that I’m pretty sure the same thing happened with covid in early 2020 then less than 3 months later it was a global pandemic. Hopefully this isn’t the same

Did you know it's the summer holidays now? All schools have closed 'for the rest of the year'

One primary school sent home one reception class home from 14 July (about a week early) after a pupil was a close contact of a confirmed case

www.standard.co.uk/news/london/monkeypox-grand-avenue-school-surbiton-vaccine-ukhsa-b1012005.html

71% of British monkeypox cases are in London. Over 90% are in adult men

@SquirmOfEels That's the one. I thought it was the whole school but was only the reception classes so apologies.

Another death today in Spain-31 years old no known health issues...so very sad.

I'm postponing getting pregnant this year now as I'm so concerned, until we know how it's going to go I'm not taking the risk.

Monkeypox is difficult to catch, however has the potential to affect anyone given the right conditions. Women have been diagnosed with it too. Currently those at highest risk are being offered the vaccine though more supply is needed.
