Playgrounds in London with these criteria...

Hello,
Could anyone please recommend playgrounds anywhere in London that

  • have no swings
  • are ideally fenced?

I only know the lovely colourful one next to Westfield Stratford with the big fish and frog climbing frames. My ASD kids engaged so much more when there were no swings to distract them!

Thank you in advance x

I don't think the Diana memorial playground in Kensington gardens has swings, although I've not been for 10 years! Fantastic place though. It's faces and you have to check in.

Just looked at the website and can't see any swings! But it does mention queues unless you get there early.

Faced = fenced!

Maybe the one on the Southbank behind the London eye?

The Diana memorial playground does have swings but they’re in their own little zone so easy enough to avoid

The Diana memorial playground definitely had swings. They are tucked away near the entrance and some at the back. It has been a couple of years since we were there though.

I believe there is an app that can help with this called play ground buddy, haven’t used it personally though, most of the parks I can think of in London have swings so can’t add any extra ones

Doubleraspberry · 23/07/2022 14:54

Don’t know how far out of central London you want to travel, but Brockwell Park has a wonderful playground that is fenced and enormous, so although it has swings, you could be in a different part of the playground and not notice them I’d have thought. You can get the No. 3 bus from central London to Brockwell Park fairly quickly.

If you go to to the Diana one go really early or it'll be heaving. Take your own drinks and snacks - I'm still resentful of the price of the takeaway cuppa I had there and I was used to London prices as I lived there!

DuckBushCityLimit · 23/07/2022 15:00

The one in Holland Park is really nice. I don't think it has traditional swings, just the nest ones and a massive multi-child backwards and forwards one.

MumofSpud · 23/07/2022 15:01

Ok I'll bite - why no swings?

Sorry - I didn't read the second bit ! Blush

What about that magic garden place in hampton court? That’s a great playground far better than Diana playground as I feel children can escape from there / not easy to see them if you have a few children to watch ….

Kingstonmumof1 · 23/07/2022 16:21

Geez the magic Garden at Hampton Court is sooo bad for not being able to see your kids/having them get out. I know a few people who had younger kids escape...no swings though.

FKATondelayo · 23/07/2022 16:24

Come to Barnet. All our playgrounds are fenced in and there is virtually no working equipment Grin

Thank you, I recently downloaded this app especially but unfortunately you can't filter for things you don't want at the playground- only for things you do want.

If there's no swings I'll happily give it a try! Thank you.
Basically if there are swings my DC will literally spend the entire time just on the swing- nothing wrong with that but i think sometimes it's also nice for them to climb a bit or play with something else. Which I've now discovered they do do provided there aren't any swings around!

Magic garden is amazing but really best if they are old enough for them not to need you following them around and can just find you for drinks etc

Also you can only get access with hrp membership or a £26/£13 ticket.

Ilovechoc12 · 24/07/2022 06:19

Or there is always wisley? That’s quite nice to walk round with children / small playground I thinks it’s just inside m25….. or maybe it’s classed as surrey 🤪

What if you filter for fenced and area, make a list and then filter for swings and cross them off the list.
