Has anyone found everything is too salty since covid?

I had it about 4 weeks ago. I wasn't aware of any change to my sense of taste while I was ill, but since I've recovered everything tastes far too salty. I've had to switch to unsalted butter for bread, for example and all restaurant meals taste over salted to me.

Anyone else?

I haven’t noticed this exactly but I’ve lost an overall interest and enjoyment in food since I had Covid just after Christmas.

I didn’t notice any loss of taste of smell while I had it and I can still taste and smell now but I just don’t seem to enjoy anything - even things that were firm favourites in the past. I’m still eating etc but it’s definitely more perfunctory now.

I did after I recovered from pneumonia. Coincidentally my blood pressure was really high and I went onto blood pressure meds. Once my blood pressure came down I could tolerate salt again

I haven't had it but my friend said that was one of the things she noticed during and after, everything tastes too salty for her and she was someone who loved a bit of food with her salt 😉

Omg ! Never occurred to me this could be related to covid. I tested positive 3rd July. Since then I have been moaning Sainsbury’s are over salting their bread. Thanks OP for bringing this up.

I have only just wondered if there's a connection too. I was also complaining that "they" had started putting too much salt in the butter, switched brands, but that was just the same.

I didn't used to like unsalted butter, so far the rest of the family don't seem to have noticed the switch....

i'm the opposite, i've started adding salt to stuff which is something i've never done

PieonaBarm · 22/07/2022 18:34

I can eat much spicier stuff than before. And I crave spicy or highly flavoured food now. Though I had Covid Nov 2020.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/07/2022 18:35

I’ve found the exact opposite - I had covid last spring, and still have long covid, and I’ve found I want salt on everything - when I don’t add salt, things don’t have as much flavour as before.

Riverlee · 22/07/2022 18:50

My dh is the opposite, and feels the need to add salt to his food.

lookingsusbro · 22/07/2022 20:36

I'm the opposite too. I completely lost my sense of smell and lost almost all sense of taste. I can't seem to taste salt as much as before I had covid. I now have to get dh/dcs to taste food I'm cooking or I end up adding far too much salt for everyone else. I just add extra salt to my portion.

I also can't stand the taste of strawberries/raspberries anymore 😔. When I had covid they tasted horrid, like orange juice tastes after brushing your teeth, and they still do.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 22/07/2022 20:41

Hm. I hadn't noticed this, but I have actually been adding less salt to my food post-covid, now I think of it (I used to put salt on my toast in the mornings).

Eggs definitely taste too eggy.
