What would you buy?

it needs to have 5 seats and a boot and preferably as new as possible and needs to be insurance for a young driver.

Any ideas appreciated, thanks.

Hmm just searched on Autotrader and found about 10 Toyota Aygos reg in 2018 and 2019 for 6,500 or less. Some pretty low mileage too. So not quite £8,000. Maybe mine is not for sale after all.

Not sure what your search terms and filters are, but there aren't that many. The cheapest is £5995 and it has 43,000 miles on the clock.

Well I looked at 2018 and 2019 reg Aygos and the cheapest was £5500

If you're buying for use by a young driver it needs to be 1l or less engine size and although the insurance won't be too outrageous while they are learning it will increase by a significant chunk once they pass their test (this is assuming shared use of the car)

I also have an i10 and love it.

17 year old hated it at first after her driving instuctors is istop/assisted braking/auto windscreen do it itself car.

however now she’s more confident she is also a convert and loves it. Small to park and turn, easier for small gaps city driving. Added advantage of any knocks or chips and it doesn’t take £1000’s off the value.

hyundai’s also have 5 year warranty, so we got a 3 year old one for under 5k with 2 years still left. They’re often second cars or older peoples so easy to find low mileage.

cheap to insure as well.

We’ve gone for a corsa e in the end, 1 litre turbo and very nippy and had all the features and tech she wants and needs. With a nice sporty look and enough cred for her age.

Thanks for all the input.

We got a 2014 Hyundai i20 last year for a bit under 4k. It's been a really good car

Second hand car prices are quite high at the moment. We got a VW polo last October for £5k.

Context is everything. 20 years old? 10 years old? 5 years old?

Suzuki Alto. I love it so much I bought an identical one when my previous one got written off after an accident.

Zero road tax, cheap to insure, good on fuel, nothing has ever gone wrong mechanically with either of the Altos I’ve had.

Any Japanese car though, really. Steer clear of French pieces of shit (I’ve had two and both were terrible!)

My FiL owns a small garage, he got my DD a C1, great little car, been 100% trouble free for 6 years now,
i ve had many company cars, Peugeots, Fords, Skoda's & one Toyota, the best 2 were a Focus 1.5 tdci and Peugeot 308 HDI & the worst the Toyota, i actually paid the lease company to take it back a year early, it was a terrible car.

Atm i would avoid anything from the far east, spares can be a total nightmare and take weeks to get here, FiL has a newish Hyundai sitting on the garage forecourt waiting for suspension parts, 10 week back order, a thread on here had a Honda laid up waiting for recall parts.

I'd get a Seat Ibiza myself, cheaper than a VW but basically the same car and bit better than a Skoda, loads more stylish.
