Hiya
As title says I can’t get my daughter into a school we’re we live so have decided to move over the summer holidays . We need a place for year 6 in September. Does anyone know any primary schools that need pupils ? Anywhere in country as we have no ties here. You can PM me of your don’t want to reply on here . Thanks

That doesn't make sense.

If there are literally no places then the LA has to help you find one via the Fair Access Protocol. You can also appeal and the fact that there are no places anywhere would help you a lot.

Also unless you have recently moved to where you live (so why would you move again?) where has she been in school up to now?

Maireas · 22/07/2022 08:51

It doesn't work that way. You'll be allocated a place.

Bluevelvetsofa · 22/07/2022 08:53

Yes, I was thinking that she must have just finished Year 5 if a Year 6 place is needed. You have to be allocated a place, but it may not be very local.

There will be a space locally, not of your choosing or close to home though perhaps. Are you really so flexible you are willing to move wherever in the space of weeks? Just ring up a random LA and ask?

Smartiepants79 · 22/07/2022 08:59

I don’t mean to be rude but that’s a crazy way to decide on a school/place to live.
Hundreds of schools across the country have year 6 places available! We have several in the school I work in.
But I wouldn’t suggest that’s a good reason to move here.
If you really want to move then you start looking for somewhere you like the look of, look at the properties that’s available and then look at the schools and investigate if they have spaces.
People are right, technically your local council have a duty to find you a school place.

Threebutterflies · 22/07/2022 09:09

@Smartiepants79
Really ? See I’m the complete opposite then . I’d rather move to somewhere to get my daughter into a good school for her last year. I’m just after names of schools on here so that I can see what places are available nearby to rent. I know some primary schools are actually short of pupils! I thought some of the mums netters on here might work in these schools etc. Then hopefully we can find a school and a place to rent over the summer holidays . Yes it’s a pain this has happened on the last day of term but I had to wait ages to get an appeal were I live and it has been declined. They only gave me that decision yesterday.

OP.
Can you clarify:

  • where has your DD been for y5

  • is there literally been no school as stated in your title, or just 'no schools that I like'

Maireas · 22/07/2022 09:12

My friend teaches in a primary school in Barnsley, she says they have some places so you could move there.

TeenDivided · 22/07/2022 09:12

rubbish grammar, sorry.

RampantIvy · 22/07/2022 09:14

Why is she leaving the school she was in up to now?

Threebutterflies · 22/07/2022 09:16

Oh just to say I would need the name and postcode of the schools that’s why I said you can pm me privately. Then I’d have to see if there’s anywhere nearby to rent .

I think your going to have to narrow it down. Looking for anywhere in the country with a school place is like Looking for somewhere with mains electricity or access to a supermarket. I would bet there's a year 6 place available in almost every town or city in the county, what other criteria are you looking for?

Threebutterflies · 22/07/2022 09:20

She left her last school due to problems there.

This doesn't make sense. Your LA have to offer your child a school place. Why is she leaving the school she's been in up to yr5?
You need to give a rough idea of geographical location. You could currently be living in Yorkshire and get suggestions for Cornwall. What about your DC's friends? What about jobs?

I’m pretty flexible although I don’t drive so would have to have public transport. Like I said this post is for anyone who might work in school that knows they have spaces or need pupils . Not just a random place that has mains electricity!

Remember that you will be applying for secondary places very shortly, so if you genuinely do want/need to move, you should identify target secondaries and their catchments (or feeder schools if that is relevant, though that is increasingly rare). Then look at possible primaries in the area and contact them all to see if they have places. If none do, then FAP can be invoked - but be aware that that is only if there is no possible place at all, rather than ‘no place in a school of your choosing’, and you could well be expected to travel a significant distance.

She’s not in school at the moment.

TeenDivided · 22/07/2022 09:26

OK.
So would a more accurate OP be:
'I've pulled my DD out of her current school due to various issues. Because there is a space there and the school LA don't accept it was necessary for her to leave, they aren't being helpful in getting a place elsewhere, and all the schools we can reach by pubic transport are full.
Therefore I've decided to move areas and I'm looking for a school for y6 in an area that will have renting options nearby and is on reasonable public transport. It will also need to be accessible on foot/public transport for the secondary school.'

xippo · 22/07/2022 09:29

How much per month can you afford in rent?
great schools near me but you’re looking at least £1600 per month for a 2 bed, if there’s any available.

Beees · 22/07/2022 09:34

What a totally bonkers concept.

How can you just up and move anywhere in the country without so much as visiting, let alone move from your daughters friends, your support network and don't you have to consider things like a job?

There will be schools in your area with places but it sound more like you don't like these choices. Why not home school her until next year when she will start secondary school instead of uprooting your whole lives on a whim?

AtLeastPretendToCare · 22/07/2022 09:34

OP by far the bigger issue I would think of is where you are looking for her to go to secondary school. In England I think on time applications have to be by end October and you have to be living there.

so I would do it this way - which secondary school would you like her to go to, identify some good ones in places you’d like to live where you can afford to live close enough to the school to get in and then work backwards to identify if you can get her y6 spaces nearby.

felineweird · 22/07/2022 09:35

In the nicest possible way, it was insane to leave a school without having a new one in place, even if she was having problems.

Loads of schools will have Y6 places what are your criteria?

Fizzgigg · 22/07/2022 09:36

I know a great state school in Chelsea, London but obviously rent anywhere nearby will be expensive (although the catchment of that schools big as people travel on tube and bus to get there).

LIZS · 22/07/2022 09:36

Would you not be better looking for good secondaries and working backwards for a primary place and location. There are a few areas where middle school system still exists and the transfer happens year 8.

Louise0701 · 22/07/2022 09:39

You would’ve had to complete an in year transfer form in order to move your child so would’ve had to name at least 3 schools you wished for her to join.
im assuming what you’ve done is just decided not to send your child back in September instead of going the right way about things.
do you not work? Surely you cannot just upsticks and move to anywhere in England with a school place?
