Bloody seagulls. Any advice please!

We have a dormer flat roof which seagulls land on and tap tap tap.
I think that they are trying to pull up the flat roof materials but the tapping resonates through the entire house and it’s all hours of the day and night.
4am this morning. It’s so loud.
It’s driving us mad.

so has anyone had this?
What did you do?
Dorma is of course on the roof creating a third floor so I can’t just pop up there!

Install Seagull spikes, or bird of prey model.

KangarooKenny · 22/07/2022 07:06

Yep, bird spikes or netting.

BarrelOfOtters2 · 22/07/2022 07:08

Bird spikes. I’m trying to find someone that will put them on our chimney.

Hellocatshome · 22/07/2022 07:12

Bird spikes and a plastic owl. Please don't use netting as it actually kills a lot of birds and I understand you dont wany them on your roof but its better to do that without killing them.

Just want to deter not harm them.

Have you been there for long? If not, you may soon get used to it.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 22/07/2022 07:18

Bird spikes.

They won't harm them, they just stop them landing in the first place.

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 22/07/2022 07:48

20 years.
Had the dormer recovered recently and it’s since then.

i will not get used to it, even our neighbours have commented on it as it’s so loud they can hear it.

They stomp about on our roof at 4am all summer.
The ones here have destroyed all forms of deterrent, spikes, fake birds of prey, etc.

They are herring gulls and are genuinely scared of nothing.

They perch on cars, you can walk or drive right up to them and they only wander away a few steps. They even land in the garden when we are in it.

Noisy shitty bastards

Our road has this issue. Sympathies OP, they are so loud and really do barge around on the roof. We count down the days until the babies fly the nest and it quietens down.

Apparently they return every year to the same roof. We are fortunate that ours doesn't appear to be one they actually nest on and the noise is still disruptive. I've considered getting quotes for bird proofing but ultimately feel there is no point as several neighbours have it and it's quite plain the seagulls aren't actually deterred at all (they walk and perch between the spikes) and it isn't cheap.
