School Shoes - Y7

So I'm in chat because I doubt these are stylish or beautiful!

I know the usual advice is to look what other kids are wearing but I can't get that close to a sample of high school kids to see their feet well enough!

Obeying school rules with no trainers or labels, what kind are not social suicide? I'm guessing velcro is out but are "dress shoes" lame too?

For boys. With big feet. And a desire to fit in at a school where he knows nobody!

Mine have to wear smart black shoes, black laces and stitches and have to fall below the ankle. We opted for smart Clarke's men's shoes, Asda etc do similar styles, most boys do as kickers etc are not allowed.

Can I ask the same for girls - are loafers ok? She's been wearing Mary Janes throughout primary but literally the last one in this style. She's not into lace-ups or anything chunky.

Does she walk to school or take a bus?
If she doesn't want laces (which are more common) then Clarks Bootleg Scala ones might do? www.clarks.co.uk/Girls/Bootleg/c/g7 My DD1 had something like them and they were more robust than I expected.

I think it varies by school but I wouldn't worry too much. These days there are different ways to commit social suicide! Lace up is probably safest for boys.

I was feeling exactly like you a couple of years ago - didn't want him starting senior school in the 'wrong' thing. Let him pick some lace up shoes from Next.

Maybe it's just my son, but turns out he wouldn't have a clue what sort of shoes (coat, bag etc) his friends have. They're just not bothered about that sort of thing in year 7 (or 8!). Although my son does go to an all boys school so not sure if that makes a difference.

BettySundaes · 21/07/2022 18:44

It will be public transport to school, so apart from traipsing to different lessons not masses of walking. Those Clarks Scala are the kind of thing I had in mind - so hope they aren't fashion suicide.

Just be careful about the schools rules,I remember lots of threads and 'News' stories about kickers having too obvious a logo and being banned on day 1 of school term.

converseandjeans · 21/07/2022 18:47

We ended up with M&S - they are definitely shoes & are polishable & lasted all of year 7

Lace up brogues at DS's school.

dalisdrippingclock · 21/07/2022 18:55

DMs all the way for my kids, they last for ages and tick the required boxes but are still seen as 'cool'

MrsPear · 21/07/2022 18:58

Ds wears Velcro marks and spencer he is in year 7 about to go year 8. No nasty comments. Mixed state comp or whatever they call it now.

blackteaplease · 21/07/2022 19:01

DMs not allowed at my dd's school. Stitching has to be black.

Cocoaone · 21/07/2022 19:04

DDs school has a 'no trainers' policy. They occasionally send round a reminder 'no trainers/school uniform expectations' email

95% of all students wear black Nike Air Force Ones.....

I'm hoping we get this!

I’ve just ordered these. No idea what the kids are wearing as dS going into year 7. The school is quite strict and I’m worried kickers wouldn’t be accepted.

DM’s do a mono shoe with no contrasting stitching
