Cordless hoovers

Boring topic but needs must. Can anyone recommend a cordless vacuum cleaner? We have hard floors so it doesn't need to have suction that would strip tiles off the floor. Just enough to actually remove pet hair and bits of dirt, really. We won't be using it as our main hoover so battery life isn't critical. But we'd like something reliable that won't stop working after a year or so. Thank you.

We have had bosch athlet- died after two years and Miele trifled- died after a year. Bosch was better but not sure I would buy again. Neither over used as I have cleaner and am lazy.

Cotherstone · 20/07/2022 09:14

Our Bissell Pet Hair Pro (or something like that) is pretty good, we’ve had it two years so far and it works well on floor and carpet.

IRememberXanadu · 20/07/2022 09:20

So Bosch and Miele not great - that's surprising. Thanks for the tip as those are expensive.

Would you recommend the Bissell then, @Cotherstone ? I believe those are pricey too, right?

I love my shark cordless, been really pleased with it, had it at least a couple of years now, far better than the cordless g tech, and I loved that originally. The shark duo clean pet, has more features and load of attachments, I have a mix of mostly tiled and some carpeted floors.

mommybear1 · 20/07/2022 09:24

Same as other pp I had two Bosch Athlete ones (one was a manufacturer replacement as it was under guarantee) loved them but not their lack of life span. Replacement was a Shark anti hair wrap model love it.

Cotherstone · 20/07/2022 09:25

Yes it was pricey, but we got it on sale at about half price. It is our main hoover though.

TuftyMarmoset · 20/07/2022 09:26

Another vote for a Shark!

EntertainingandFactual · 20/07/2022 09:26

Miele Triflex is brilliant.

I comes with a 2 year parts and Labour guarantee so if it ‘died after a year’ (?) @ChillinwiththeVillains Did you get it replaced or mended?

In my experience, Miele are the best.

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/07/2022 09:29

Adore the Bosch Athlet but it is in our weekend house so doesn't get a lot of use and barely any at all during Covid. We've had it for 5 or 6 years.

Quaffee · 20/07/2022 09:32

Shark cordless is great!

bluegardenflowers · 20/07/2022 09:46

My vax is massively under powered but fine for hard floors and collects a surprising amount of dust. Cheap new on eBay as the box was crumpled

IRememberXanadu · 20/07/2022 09:46

Shark fans - I'm looking at this one www.amazon.co.uk/Shark-Cordless-Cleaner-IZ201UK-Battery/dp/B082QJK7VV/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?adgrpid=124815165540&gclid=Cj0KCQjwz96WBhC8ARIsAATR2511SsXfe5UjGvCZIEMqwE5BJfJECfMHjLkDR3Vk6l6oABtb2cG1fV0aAhMLEALw_wcB&hvadid=578479319702&hvdev=c&hvlocint=1006596&hvlocphy=1008773&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=1378712575400331643&hvtargid=kwd-296812433405&hydadcr=24865_2248290&keywords=shark%2Bvacuum%2Bfor%2Bpets&qid=1658305421&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExNVdVTlFUNk9FVFZKJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzI5MTY1M01MOUxaUFBVRzFDQiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzI3NzcxMVVFQjZYTjhaTVQyMSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 Is this the one you have? (apologies for the very long link!)

I use a Dyson stick hoover at my housekeeper job and it's great! Runs for ~40mins, picks up well, charges quickly and isn't too heavy. They've owned it for ages too and it's still working!

Headbandheart · 20/07/2022 09:53

I have a dyson. I know they’re expensive and not everyone likes them. It’s 4 years old. Powerful suck, which actually you do need on hard floors to otherwise stuff can just blow around from n front of the cleaning head. I actually use more power on hard floors than carpets ( but I don’t have pets).
never Had issues with it. Easy to clean and empty. Does what it says on the timing as well now as when was new

MrsCat1 · 20/07/2022 09:54

Yet another vote for Shark. Previously had a Dyson stick for a year or two but it was far too sensitive and high maintenance so replaced it with a Shark. Haven't looked back.

Headbandheart · 20/07/2022 09:55

Oh, and my dyson also gets about 40 mins which is easily enough for a 4 bed house including low and high level dusting

Yodaisawally · 20/07/2022 09:56

Vax blade, we've got the pet version. I love it. Battery lasts 45 minutes.

Roselilly36 · 20/07/2022 11:09

Nearly the same as mine, I have the blue one, try shark directly you sometimes get extended warranty, option to pay in three instalments without interest and free next day delivery. I forgot to say, one of my main reasons for purchase was the anti hair wrap feature, I was v skeptical about this, but it really does work. Love mine.

Miele Triflex is brilliant.

In my experience, Miele are the best.

Miele triflex: the charger went funny after a year (like the white stuff that leaks out of dead batteries). Called John Lewis who told me to sort it out with Miele. They replaced battery unit and charger wire and the tiny dust collection chamber. But it still wouldn’t charge so JL refunded me.
And I danced happily as I sent it away. I thought it was truly naff compared to the athlet - hair removal from the spinny brush much more tedious and time consuming. Obviously it is just my perspective but I was a fairly loyal Miele consumer. Recently moved to Bosch after not v impressive trail of Miele products (washing machine, tumble dryer and this vacuum). So my dishwasher is bosch and is a bit annoying but at a much lower price.
I am following this thread as I would like another cordless but I am unsure JL would trust me to buy a third one given that they have had to refund the previous two. The AEG reviews on there look great BUT all seem to be gifted in exchange for a review on the manufacturers’ website which then carries over to the JL website.

Wagsandclaws · 20/07/2022 11:30

I have a shark and it's ok, not amazing though.

I HAVE just bought a cordless Henry! It's the tits tbh, yes still a bit of a cumbersome size Hoover but I bought the two battery model and it last ages and hoovers an awful lot better than my Shark.

IRememberXanadu · 20/07/2022 14:29

@Roselilly36 from the SHark website: 'What warranty do I get with my Shark Vacuum?
The warranty is 1 year standard. When you register your warranty with Shark, you are covered for 5 years (2 years for the battery). You can register your warranty here: sharkclean.co.uk/register-guarantee/'

I'm therefore wondering whether I could buy the Shark from Amazon then register it and still get the extended warranty.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/07/2022 14:36

I have a Dyson, we needed to replace the battery as it lasted about 6 mins otherwise.

My dad has one he got on Amazon for £120 and it's better than mine. Certainly won't be buying another expensive one.

Roselilly36 · 20/07/2022 14:49

@IRememberXanadu I think the extended warranty is only available when you buy directly from Shark.

willyouwontyoubemine · 20/07/2022 14:54

I have that one, it's good.

Ours blocks a lot but that's partly because I play fast and loose with what I can pick up with it (a habit I picked up when I had a turbo charged Miele upright) and also because we have indoor guinea pigs and I expect it to hoover up hay.

I we were normal people I'm sure it would be perfect.

MarthanotMarfa · 20/07/2022 15:04

I’ve had my dyson for 6 years of faultless use. Worth every penny.
