Hello I have 5 Yr old high needs autistic ,non verbal, significant learning disability daughter, and she went to sleep around 11.45 last night because of heat and has woken up around 3.45 and I'm feeling tired and fed up , she also keeps shouting seems happy shout and I'm worried she is going to wake up husband and her sister. It was our 9 year wedding anniversary yesterday we didn't go anywhere . And I'm just just super tired and fed up.

OP you sound like you need a break. Can you leave husband to deal with the kids and have a rest tomorrow ?

DoubleGauze · 20/07/2022 04:28

I can't offer any help or suggestions op , but I'm up too. My 5yo autistic son can't sleep in this heat and is pacing the floor drinking his milk as i type. It was the same last night. I'm shattered!

It's so hard isn't it?

It should be much cooler thought. Sounds like you’re doing a great job in tough circumstances x

I understand. You just have to take turns and soak up the tiredness. We normally have me do the night shift (husband is on drowsy meds) and he gets up at 6 leaving me to sleep for a few hours.

It's hard to get time together as this is just what life is like. I'm also constantly feeling like a failure as I live on caffeine and sugar , which means I've gained so much weight in the last few years.

Sorry to hijack op. I'm just (clumsily) trying to say that I understand.

U haven't hijacked at all, I can relate totally, I've gained lots of weight since wedding . And yes going out is tricky I'm dreading hoildays as really struggle to take both my girls out. Youngest is 3 and half and has issues herself. I do have 5 days during first 3 weeks for a break. As both girls r going SN hoilday playsceam

She isn't in her room and wasn't last night as it was just too hot up there so I'm living room so not helping now temperature is lower I can't go up there with her shouting as she will wake rest. We can't have windows open upstairs apart from tiny child lock gap as she will climb out that's not helped

We slept in the living room last night too. The thought of trying to settle a bouncy 5 year old in that sauna wasn't appealing at all!

The play scheme sounds great. I Hope you've got plans to do as little as possible while they're away.

We've got all of our windows shut for safety reasons too. We've got a big air cooling fan in the living room so it's always the coolest space. I genuinely hate summer as my youngest won't sleep until its completely dark and (at best) wakes as soon as it's light. I am living on my last nerve for the entire season as its so hard.

Newrunner29 · 20/07/2022 05:24

Yes i wasn't in greatest mood before she went sleep , kept both girls off for the 2 days so basically staying in our living room for 2 days and not much sleep night before not good combination!

This heatwave has been a total pain hasn't it? I'm hoping to get my son out to the park for a run around today , it'll help us both cheer up I think.

It sounds really tough. Hope you all get more sleep when it's cooler tonight.

I was just wondering if something like this would mean you could open your upstairs windows a little more but still keep her safe?
