Doing little nice things for strangers

For context I have an anxiety disorder (and am pretty sure I am on the spectrum but undiagnosed) so I never know what's acceptable in general.

Yesterday I saw some guys working in the roasting heat and I really wanted to buy them a can of pop but was just too anxious to do it. My mind was telling me a million different negative scenarios that could occur.

Today I got my shopping delivered and had a bag full of ice lollies so I offered the man one (he chose a magnum) and he seemed really pleased. I'd played the scenario over in my head a hundred times before he came but decided to be 'brave'.

Just such a small thing but it made me and him I think happy.

I'd really like to try and start just doing more little things, mostly to help overcome my anxiety and interact with people more!

I've got an amazon delivery coming soon so am going to offer a bottle of water.

Sorry if this seems like a weird post!

Maybe I should have posted this in mental health for better context?!

Good on you OP, that was very kind. I made cold drinks for the contractors working on next doors house this morning. Good deed for the day! World needs more random acts of kindness.

I bet they were so grateful. I'm sweltering sat in the couch with a fan so anyone doing manual labour today has my full sympathy 😭

I did the same when my gousto arrived yesterday evening. It was 2 hours late and the poor chap looked exhausted so I gave him an ice pop. He was so grateful!

It's the little things that make a big difference to someone's day! I don't know who it is but one of my neighbours (or maybe more than one?) has taken to putting all our wheelie bins back in the bin store when they've been emptied. They get collected while I'm at work and coming home to find them all put a way is such a nice thing and makes the street look tidier than them being out all day waiting for everyone to get back.

That's a good one!

I bring my elderly neighbours bin in for him each week.

Oh OP. You have made my day. Thus is such a lovely thread. It reminded me of this post on Facebook from Lincolnshire Police m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10160475035674767&substory_index=0&id=172756724766

I think that goes to show that you never know how much these small things mean. Someone might just be mildly grateful, or they might actually remember it for a lifetime. A lady in Asda offered to get me a cup of tea 10 years ago. I was at one of the lowest points of my life. The small kindness was magnified a hundred fold because I really needed it that day.

Good for you. Be brave. It's a wonderful idea.

Good for you, OP (and other posters)! Kind acts often begin a domino effect, so go on to affect many other people too.

Some nice inspiration on this site:

That’s a lovely thing to do. Well done for feeling scared and still doing it, that’s true bravery.
