As per the title. My DC got them several years ago and I'm always amazed by the number of places the DC can get into for free. Admittedly parents still have to pay, but it makes a day out so much cheaper when the kids are free.

I've got one from childhood. Had no idea you could use them to get in free places.

Trainfromredhill · 19/07/2022 10:31

@TheCanyon you can't use it as an adult! I think they expire when the child turns 16. But this list is huge and includes places like London Zoo.

Yes we've used ours over the years though there are a lot more restrictions than when I had one as a child and my school took a whole coach party to Chessington for free because the school choir sang on the show! Not that many places near us that take them unfortunately but there are a few.

riesenrad · 19/07/2022 11:23

My ds had one and I don't think we used it once! There were so many restrictions on it.

RunningKatie · 19/07/2022 11:54

Thank you OP! I'd completely forgotten we could use them, that's a few cheaper summer holiday days out sorted.

savehannah · 19/07/2022 13:08

I'm now really annoyed because I just bought non refundable tickets for the tower of London, forgetting it's a BP badge place 🤦

IJemimaDigging · 19/07/2022 15:23

No, but then I get into a lot of places at a reduced rate due to having a disability, so I don't think we'd benefit from having a badge anyway.

balalake · 19/07/2022 15:27

I know someone who has one who is in their fifties, must ask them if they still have their badge. School choir sang on the programme.

takingmytimeonmyride · 19/07/2022 15:27

My youngest has several. You only get one card though. We've used it a few times. Used it at Chessington before they stopped being valid there.

He's 16 next year so need to get a few more visits in to places before then. (How is my smallest baby 16 next year?)

TugboatAnnie · 19/07/2022 15:31

I have mine from c.1964. White badge, blue ship. I get concession prices anyway now but would have been nice a few years ago!

blackheartsgirl · 19/07/2022 15:40

Yes. Dd3 has 2 .Haven’t used it though

Noluthando · 19/07/2022 15:42

How do you get them ?

MargaretThursday · 19/07/2022 15:53

Used to use ours for Legoland before they stopped that. It was great!

RudsyFarmer · 19/07/2022 15:54

Yes we’ve got one! Does anyone know if there’s anywhere free for a child with one in Stratford upon Avon?

Trainfromredhill · 19/07/2022 16:26

@Noluthando just google blue peter badges and it pops up with instructions. I'd put the link but the page isn't loading for me right now.(but was working this morning).

Another thing that might be knowing about if your child likes working towards badges, is Pawprint Badges. They are a bit like doing scouting / guiding badges at home.

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 25/07/2022 14:07
  • Worth knowing about.
darisdet · 25/07/2022 14:12

Are they difficult to get?

We did a fundraising thing for a Blue Peter appeal (my best friend at the time and I) and only received a thank you letter. That's not why we did the fundraiser at all but I'm thinking in retrospect. I remember (dredging the memory) there were different levels like gold or bronze, but I think you had to do something extraordinary, like life-saving extraordinary, to get one of those?

megletthesecond · 25/07/2022 14:14

Yes. They both have a green badge and DD also has a traditional white and blue badge.
Used them quite a lot when they were primary school age.

JustDanceAddict · 25/07/2022 14:19

Yes my dd had a purple one for sending in a review of something! She was obsessed w BP around age 9/10 (Barney/Helen years).

RockinHorseShit · 25/07/2022 14:27

Both DD & I did & had absolutely no idea they were anything more than just a cool badgeConfused. Drat too late now
