DS is on NCS wk2 and they have to complete a fundraising event by end of play Thursday this week. I thought the community work bit was digging a charity’s garden, painting a church hall sort of thing. They’re drawing a blank since they don’t have time to apply to the council for a licence to sell things. Any ideas please for things they could do that aren’t a straight shakedown of parents?

grass cutting

Are they working with a particular charity?

When we've hosted NCS groups in the past, we've had activities pre-planned that the group simply need to refine, market and execute.

I think selling ice pops is a fab idea.
Or hosting a story-time in the park, free of charge but asking for donations.
Supermarket bag pack.
Busking.

Thanks all. 2 charities came in today asking them to fundraiser, and they simply chose one and were left to it. The NCS people have told them they can’t sell anything so that’s ice pops out. Busking also needs a licence doesn’t it?

Could they not give out ice pops in exchange for a donation? Some people might give nothing, but others will give a pound or more, making it a good money spinner.

Raffle of promises.
Do you have anyone who will volunteer to wash a car, do an hour's cleaning, iron a basket of ironing, mow the lawn, dog walk for an hour, babysit for two hours, couple of hours DIY? Or raffle off larger amounts of time. Does anyone cut hair or do manicures? What skills are available?

Gazelda, I don’t know on that. I’ll look online now.

cabbageking to be honest I’d rather they out the effort in themselves, plus this ‘local’ element is almost an hour away from where we live so that would complicate it.
