Obviously stay hydrated, wear a hat and suncream- any other good tips for making the day more bearable and safe?

No idea but I work in a hospital and it was awful today 😩 dreading Tuesday

Stay home - nobody works outside in this heat unless it’s unavoidable. What work are you doing?

How many people can just decide not to go to work?

It's my 18 year old who is working at a theme park.

Cover your neck and put zinc block on nose and anywhere else prone to burning. Sunglasses with good UVA protection.

Really worried about my agricultural engineer DH. Climbing inside combines in the middle of a field in that heat is really scary. So watching for any tips!!

Millions of people have to work outside.

DH is a postman, he'll be well looked after by his customers-plenty of drinks, ice creams, cold flannels. There's some lovely people on his round.

I'm starting early, 6 am. And have juggled my work around so that I'm in the tractor at the hottest point (it has aircon). But I don't paln on doing anything else differently, hadn't occurred to me to even bring water, normally have a glass before I leave for work and one after I get home.

A spray mist bottle to spritz the face?
Put plastic bottles of squash in the freezer tonight and take them to drink as they melt.
Ice blocks in the lunch box and in an insulated bag
Suncream and a wide brimmed hat of course
Could possibly put a wet flannel under the hat?

LuvMyBoyz · 17/07/2022 21:12

Wet towel around the neck/shoulders. Keep it wet.
I have a hiker’s version which is meant to super-cool but a wet tea-towel has always done the job. I also use an umbrella for extra shade.

JuneOsborne · 17/07/2022 21:16

I'd take extra water and some. Some to douse a towel in it and wrap round my neck. Enough to be able to keep doing it and still have enough to drink.

And an umbrella. A big umbrella.

Sunscreen, hydrating food, something sweet and something salty and wear the coolest clothes possible.

Hope he's ok op. Employers really need to be looking out for their employees. And if you're self employed, well, yourself.

Cap/ sun hat

Scabetty · 17/07/2022 22:57

Theme park should make adequate provisions for shade - erect umbrellas. What is their risk assessment for staff in view of weather warning?

TheChosenTwo · 17/07/2022 23:00

@Londonlass139 this reminded me, a few weeks ago when it got pretty hot I offered our postie an ice cream/lolly but he said it made it harder to work carrying it and trying to get Mail out of his bag and opening gates etc! He was very grateful for the offer and I filled his water bottle up, throwing some ice cubes in there too!

Wickywickyyow · 18/07/2022 07:22

I don't know what their risk assessment says, DS said they are closing the park an hour early and they've just been told to 'be careful'.

Keep you hair damp.
The evaporation will help lower your temperature
