About to start on ITV

I don't get how Badenoch can stand there and seriously try and convince the public she's the best bet for the future when she wants to cut the future workforces education to the bone with no support staff or peripheral activities. And she thinks brexit is done.

Truss looks like she's terrified.

Mordaunt doesn't seem to know what she wants to say and doesn't complete her sentences.

Rishi sounds convincing - which is pissing me off.

Tugenhat is my favourite but he's not getting any time to speak.

Although judging how bad the others look when they open their mouths that may be in his favour Grin

Blossomtoes · 17/07/2022 19:34

She means Amber Rudd was.

Ah yes, Amber Rudd went back in and and put the brakes on?

SpindleInTheWind · 17/07/2022 19:39

Mordaunt just waffles about shite.

Westfacing · 17/07/2022 19:39

Kemi is quite sharp tongued - a bit unpleasant

With Mark Field @Debbiedoodah

Westfacing · 17/07/2022 19:42

Mark Field's the thug who at a posh dinner grabbed a woman protestor by her neck and marched her out the room. He should have been arrested!

Truss seems to forget her entire education was under a Tory government.

Westfacing · 17/07/2022 19:43

Is it my imagination or is Rishi getting the chance to talk more than the others, or am I not paying attention?

Spot on @Westfacing. Tugendhat can’t get a word in edgeways

Westfacing · 17/07/2022 19:49

Liz trying to look tough - it just doesn't work, reminds me of a school prefect ticking you off

Don't know why I bother watching these things! But then again, you can't really miss it can you... perverse!

I like Penny - I think she's genuine and glad she stands up to the toxicity and smear campaigning tactics.

He seems the best at talking over the other candidates.

Athenajm80 · 17/07/2022 20:38

I wish the presenter had the ability to cut their mikes if they waffled, didn't answer the question, or went over their allocated time. I'd also mute them for using phrases PPs have stated and the word unprecedented 😁

I don't love her 'calling out' style.
I don't believe a word RS says - just googled his father in law who didn't actually 'come from nothing' and founded a business with £200 scraped together. More like middle class family, uni education, six co-founders but yes his wife leant the money.

OneFrenchEgg · 17/07/2022 20:43

Why did Liz just point at him?

OneFrenchEgg · 17/07/2022 20:43

Agree Rishi is massively arrogant talking over everyone.

MarshaBradyo · 17/07/2022 20:45

I’d say Kemi and Tom out but not sure which two out if the three left for the final vote

They both didn’t do as well this time

OneFrenchEgg · 17/07/2022 20:45

Maybe they are patsys and have to ask R all the questions/make him look good?

chaosmaker · 17/07/2022 21:06

Interesting that none of the spineless gits would hold a GE. Democracy is not a thing to them although if it were they'd stop FPTP.

LeniGray · 17/07/2022 22:23

Lots of finger pointing/stabbing/wagging from Truss, I think she thinks it makes her seem more commanding - it doesn’t.

Rishi reminds me too much of Blair, which I find most off-putting, along with his insistence of talking over the others.

I don’t trust Mordaunt - she comes across quite well, but there’s no substance.

Kemi and Tom not bad, although Kemi needs to work on stating things a little more diplomatically! Tom’s ‘ready to serve’ … not ready to be a PM imo.

Solasum · 17/07/2022 22:31

I thought Rishi came across much better than the others this time.

Tom seemed very nervous.

Penny lacked substance.

Decidualcast · 17/07/2022 22:33

Kemi came across as aggressive and wasn’t affable in the slightest.
Truss looked terrified and terrifying.
I agree Rishi had Blair vibes, but he came across as the most personable. I was out off when he suddenly became very animated at the start of the closing speech - too rehearshed.
My favourite was Tugenhat - genuine, but he hasn’t got what it takes to be OM. He let Kemi trounce him.
Penny - waffled but was quite maternal.

Mypinkysperky · 17/07/2022 22:43

Why is this leadership battle being rammed down our throats. Who are they trying to convince, are they just practicing for next year? We dont vote for our new prime minister they do. They are all a bunch of liars and back stabbers and do exactly as they like when they get in.

Westfacing · 18/07/2022 05:59

Although we don't get to vote it's interesting to see and hear the characters, under pressure. Apart from short TV soundbites we don't really see them in action.

I'm seriously not impressed with any of them but at this stage it's looking likely that Sunak will be the next PM.
