Sounds daft but we just got our first house after living in flats all my life and I'm finding it hard to keep on top of the cleaning.. do I do one whole day of cleaning or try keep on top of it daily? Would love to hear what you guys do?

Keep it down to max 3 hours per week (excluding laundry and dishes) and share it 50/50 with your partner. So you do 1.5 hours. Do it when you choose, don't impose some sort of stressful routine on yourself. Don't go thinking cleaning is a virtue or something you should give more than a passing thought to.

We alternate across weekends as most things can go two weeks. The only thing that gets done every week is the toilets and the kitchen is cleaned daily after cooking. DH and also split chores between us, so one person isn't doing it all.
It depends on the size of the house. When I lived alone in a two bed, I used to spend an hour or two on a Saturday blitzing everything and that was more than sufficient.

You'll get as many variations as you get posts.

it depends how clean you like it, how much you can do in one go, what free time/other commitments you have.

it really shouldn't be that different - probably with an added staircase!!

what did you do in your flat & why does this seem so different?

does your partner do their fair share?

This was me a few years ago, moved from a 2 bed flat to a 4 bed house, it was definitely an adjustment 😂 I have a rule - if it takes less than 5 minutes I do it right away (within reason obviously!) it stops jobs piling up during the week which is always good, so dishwasher unloading, washing putting away etc. Maybe half an hour focused every other day (e.g cleaning a bathroom) and a bit more at weekends.

I do make sure my "closing shift" every evening involves wiping down countertops, putting away things where they need to go, plumping the front room etc. Feels nice to wake up to a tidy house!

This! The most manageable system which doesn't make you a slave to housework.

Yep I also follow The Organised Mum Method. Works for me

I give the different jobs different days eg Monday fridge clean before shopping, Tuesday bathroom cleaning and towel washing, Thursday Windows and glass, Friday bed change and bedroom cleaning. Sounds a lot but if you keep on top of it is all quite quick. Then a quick dust, Hoover, kitchen clean, dw, laundry every day as needed.
