Gone through the red light. What can I expect?

I'm a very careful driver. I've ever had any fines (apart from a parking one). Anyway, I went through a very busy junction, 5 lanes, lots of cars, getting in the right lane, look up and the light is red as I'm driving through. Such an idiot!
What can I expect?

This is so true. I got caught speeding and the letter came 5 days later…
I’m pretty sure it’s to stop people using the excuse that it’s gone past 14 days.

God I wish something would happen to drivers who go through red lights. Especially the ones who speed up towards the amber light on the pelican crossing near our school where all the kids cross the road, hoping to squeak through. Twats.

Pippippipi · 21/11/2023 16:36

Probably nothing judging by the number of idiots that accelerate through them on the school run rushing the green man while kids crossing.
everyone can make a mistake I don’t think you need to worry.

Thank you so much for responding. It was a major junction so I'm sure there are cameras there.
So £100 + 3 points 🥴

Hey mate
What happened did you get the ticket if yes then how long it takes to arrive a letter

@GreenLunchBox We worked it out together as we had the date of the offence and he was at a gig. The kitchen calendar gave the game away!

know this is an old thread but googled the subject bcos think I was borderline amber/red this evening.

I had the same as you, with Dh earlier this year - letter came and he sanctimoniously (red flag) announced that it must have been me except on the particular date/time he was the one out visiting a friend 😂

CyranoDeBergerQuack · 19/12/2024 06:05

I wonder if the responses would be so cavalier if someone had been killed or injured? Seemingly every responder here has driven through red light and barely given it a second thought, except to worry if they've been photographed or not.

I think you’ll find that in most cases people aren’t just willy nilly running red lights but have been caught in the change from amber to red similar to what the OP describes.

In these cases because of the timings involved it’s unlikely that anyone will be injured but I think most will have been concerned to have broken the light and not just from a fine/penalty perspective.
