Fraud on my debit card

ofwarren · 16/07/2022 10:49

I noticed a payment coming out of my bank that I haven't authorised. I looked back and its been reoccurring since October last year. It's not a massive amount all in all, it's £100 but obviously someone has hold of my card details.

I contacted the company who the payments are with and they confirmed that it isn't even in my name.

I'm trying to ring Santander but cannot get through. The phone has been ringing out for an hour now.

Should I just cancel my card?
Will I be able to get any of the money back?

Not sure what to do seeing as though I cannot get in touch with Santander.

Been waiting to speak to santander for an hour now. I went through the menu and said it was fraud and then it started a dialling tone. No hold music, no idea if I'm in a queue.
Don't know whether to try ringing again or not.

That's a ridiculous amount of time. What about trying the online chat on the fraud page

I have had some issues around fraud on my debit card with Lloyds. I also was on the phone for an hour - and then got cut off. I went into the bank, they said “well we will just have to ring the same number you did, and it may take an hour or more” so I said “well I would rather you were doing it than me”, sat down and read my book. Even though I eventually spoke to someone it still isn’t sorted though and I am going to have to go back. They said the fraud departments were run off their feet at the moment.

Did you manage to get any money back?

Blooming heck! I expected fraud departments to be some kind of priority source. I use a credit card for online payments but the debit card particulars are used for direct debits. I do hope you get things sorted soon.

With the Halifax the other day, it took 20 mins to get through. Then a rude young man told me I should have been more careful and that it was all my fault. First time I've ever fallen for something at the age of 39! Even though apparently loads of people were falling for the same scam at the time. Not a great beside manner by Halifax. Maybe he's the same rude young man who told people on Twitter to take their business elsewhere if they didn't like the new pronoun staff badges. Frankly, I would take my business elsewhere if I could be bothered. Nationwide are the best imho.

I keep a couple of hundred in my current account everything else I transfer back and forth as needed it in takes a couple of minutes. I never use my debit card online prefer visa. You really need to watch your accounts. My neighbor is a computer fraud department employee he designs software to plug holes and prevent fraud. It's relentless he says

Hopefully you can get some sense out of the bank, OP. If the payment is not in your name then it sounds as though it could be a bank error.
They should be able to liaise with the company to get the payment details in full to allow them to investigate.
