I am in a very fortunate position where I get a car with my job, and I now need to order my next car. I realise that this is a very first world problem, but one I need to make a decision on !
I can choose a car from a small list, and have narrowed it down to 2. I make personal contributions as well, so cost is a consideration. Both are hybrids, so tax is a also a consideration. The electric range of both cars is very similar. Delivery times are similar.
I’ve narrowed my shortlist to Skoda Octavia iV 1.4 TSi Technology DSG or Kia Sportage PHEV 3 GT line AWD.
Skoda pros and cons
I have driven VAG cars based on this/similar chassis for 20 years and am very familiar with them. Know and trust them. Very similar to my current car (1.5!L petrol Golf Blueline DSG), which I love
I prefer a traditional estate to an SUV*
Lower tax (but not enough to offset higher personal contributions)
Better published mpg (up to 290 mpg)
Higher personal contribution (£80/month more than the Kia)
Kia pros and cons
Lower personal contributions (£80)
AWD could be useful about 3 weeks of the year
Lower published mpg (220-260mpg)
Higher tax
Higher car more difficult for elderly mum to get into
Head says Kia due to cost saving; heart says Skoda. I don’t know what to choose.
I drive around 250 work miles a week. I don’t want to be annoyed every time I get in my car. I live and work rurally so need a hybrid. These are the only hybrid choices available to me.
- I drove a Qashqai for a month, then a Tucson for another month last year when my current car was in an accident) and hated the high position of the SUVs. Have never driven a Sportage.
